GEARING UP FOR GALA TENTH!

New Pioneers 10th Anniversary Dinner promises to be an event you will not forget, celebrating the achievements of the past ten years and all of the many wonderful people who have made New Pioneers possible. Awards will be presented to Mary Berry, founder and executive director of the Berry Center in New Castle, KY, and to Martha and Arthur Young, local farmers who have embodied sustainability principles in their farming and their living for decades.

We are thrilled that Kentucky author-farmer Wendell Berry will present our Trailblazer Award to his daughter and that Kentucky author Fenton Johnson, brother of Martha Young, will present the Green Living Award to the Young’s. What a wonderful way to honor our awardees!

The dinner will be locally sourced and a silent auction will feature unique, sustainable items and experiences!  Tickets are going fast at $35.  Contact our office to purchase your ticket for this memorable evening. Phone: 859 336 5070.

PREMIERE HEMP PROCESSING AT SCC

Come to St. Catharine College to see how hemp fiber is processed, using the first hemp crop in the state, grown by a student in the Berry Farming Program.  The Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture and other state and local officials will attend the demonstration. We are proud that SCC is helping to introduce a new crop to the state from here in Washington Co.!

VOLUNTEER FOR SPRING ROADSIDE CLEANUP

Remember how satisfying it was to make a KY highway beautiful and clean last year? Get ready to do it again! This is a fundraiser for New Pioneers and can involve kids over 12 years of age as well as adults of all ages. You will get great exercise and feel so pleased with the resulting improvement to our community. JOIN US! BRING GLOVES. There will be jobs for everyone.

PLANNING UNDERWAY FOR SECOND SPINGFIELD GREEN FESTIVAL

The first annual Green Festival was such a success that everyone wanted to do it again. Vendors share local food, crafts, products, music, skills, and services.  Bring the kids, have a great lunch or snack and see what your neighbors are up to. Energy around this event is already very high among the planners and the vendors.  We can hardly wait for spring and all the good events it will bring this year!

Hate Weeds in your Lawn?
  THINK AGAIN!
Pollinators (bees of all kinds, hover flies, butterflies) love dandelions and white clover and can be doing their work in the world if they are nourished by our "weeds."  So, consider mowing less land, cutting back on the lawn treatment chemicals, and letting the pollinators eat their fill.  We will all reap the benefits!
