New home for the Post Office. Charity coffee morning. Newspaper service success.

As you know, with the pub shutting for some while, the Post Office service provided there either had to close as well or find a new home.  Unfortunately, there's nowhere left in Chillaton that isn't a residential property, other than the Garage.
So, the search widened a bit and came up with Marystowe Church hall.  It's a suitable building, but can hardly be described as central!  Nevertheless, the national Post Office is prepared to bear the cost of relocation and Mary and Steve from Gunnislake P.O., who work so hard to provide the Chillaton service, are very willing to make the move.

The Parochial Church Council have agreed to the use of the hall and won't be charging any rent, because it's a social service for the village.

Amazingly, after only a week's interruption due to the work at the pub, the new service will start next Tuesday 17th February.

The hours of operation will be the same as before:

9am - noon on Tuesdays and 2 - 5pm on Thursdays.

If you're going by car, please arrive via the road from  the White House and depart via the road towards Splatt Mill, so as to avoid conflicts in the narrow roads up to the church.  If it's not raining, look out for pedestrians too!

This is nowhere near a perfect solution, but it will enable people to avoid longer journeys and keep a local service going that may be able to get back to the pub, at some point in the future.

VILLAGE NEWSPAPER SERVICE

The collection of newspapers from Lifton Post Office started several months ago, when the Mary Tavy Stores could no longer deliver to Chillaton.
Our team of volunteers get the papers to the big plastic box outside the Garage before 9am for collection by those who use the service.  After a few initial hiccups, the operation has settled down and is working well.  We've also got through most of the winter!

If you would like to use the service, for which there is no delivery charge, please call Howard Asbridge on 860378.
