Minority Medical Student Travel Scholarship






SVS is funding Minority Medical Student Travel Scholarships to provide aspiring vascular surgeons with an opportunity to attend the 2015 Vascular Annual Meeting at the McCormick Place West in Chicago, IL and to enhance the minority medical student’s professional network within the vascular surgery specialty.

Minority pre-med students with a strong interest in vascular surgery are encouraged to apply. 

The application deadline is Friday, February 27 at 11:59 pm Central Standard Time.







2015 VAM Travel Scholarships
The Society for Vascular Surgery is offering General Surgery Resident/Medical Student Travel Scholarships and Minority Medical Student Travel Scholarships for the 2015 Vascular Annual Meeting.

The program allows residents and students to explore their interest in vascular surgery and importantly provides students and residents with the opportunity to meet members and leaders of the vascular surgical community. 



Apply for the 2015 Student Research Fellowship
Undergraduate college students and medical school students registered at universities in the United States and Canada are eligible for this SVS® Foundation award.

Each award consists of a US$3,000 student stipend and a two-year complimentary subscription to the Journal of Vascular Surgery.  Award recipients are eligible for a travel scholarship to attend the 2015 Vascular Annual Meeting in Chicago, June 17-20.



February is Black History Month
Watch Dr. Donna Mendes, the first black woman in the US to be certified in Vascular Surgery, in an SVS-produced video podcast.

Dr. Mendes details the changes to vascular surgery techniques and procedures that she has witnessed in her more than teo decades as a vascular surgeon.  She also addresses the high prevalence of vascular disease in her patient population in New York City and how this has affected her treatment style.

Tips for Getting Involved in the Vascular Surgery Community
At the 2013 VAM, Dr. Tony Lu, Vascular Surgery Trainee, presented ways for medical students to become more immersed in the vascular surgery community.

Among his tips for networking are attending lectures, participating in local student surgical societies, and joining vascular societies (interested in joining SVS?  Check out the box to the right!).

The Society for Vascular Surgery offers candidate membership to general surgery residents and medical students interested in the specialty.
