From the very first female tuktuk driver and social business in Madagascar, to our expanding partner school in Bangladesh, our primary school project in India, employment creation in Uganda and growing global Monyati team, we have lots of exciting news to share with you. We usually post our updates on our social media platforms, but we know some of you are successfully avoiding facebook & co. So to all our precious old-school friends, here is a good opportunity to catch up on some of our news the past few months….Happy Reading!

New Monyati Staff Madagascar

Victor is our newest staff at our office in Madagascar. He is the Operations Assistant of our Tuktuk and Rickshaw Social Business in Tulear and supports all our operational needs. He works closely with his colleagues Jane and Bakman. With his passion to practice Kung Fu in his free-time, no doubt we have a strong new member in our team.

Female Tuktuk Driver Madagascar

Toditsara is the only woman in Tulear, who is driving a tuktuk and the first beneficiary of our tuktuk social business for women. This initiatives enables women to drive and own their own tuktuk in Madagascar. Embedded into a micro-loan structure it will empower women to run their own business and gives them income, confidence and independence.

Rickshaw Social Business Madagascar

20 new rickshaw drivers joined our sustainable social business in Madagascar, which is successfully running for the past 2,5 years. Since its onset 40 rickshaw drivers in total have joined our program to receive ownership of a rickshaw, run their own small business and increase the standard of living for themselves and their family members.

Youngest Fundraiser UAE

And the title for the youngest Monyati fundraiser goes to Claudius. Four years old Claudius did not take gifts for his birthday. Instead he asked his friends to donate to Monyati and secured $1,000 USD. Truly incredible, we are speechless. If a four year old can do it, you can do it too. Who is up for a fun fundraising challenge for Monyati?

Women Entrepreneurs Uganda

Glimpse into our next initiative in Uganda: the set up of a restaurant and training center run by women, in partnership with an orphanage in Entebbe. It will create sustainability as well as employment for the older girls, who are ready to move out from the orphanage, to become independent and to generate income. Official launch coming soon...

Rules of Engagement …..

Our Rules of Engagement were featured in The Awakening Times Magazine. These affirmations are a humble effort to unclutter the confusion as to how charity work may be best approached. May these nine affirmations guide and encourage everyone, who is passionate about helping, to reassess their philosophy and help in raising awareness. Read the article here

Primary School Project India

In 2014 we launched our education initiative in India. In the meantime we identified our key allies and partners, build the relationship with the local community and are currently finalizing all official papers with the local authorities in order to begin the construction of the primary school in rural Uttar Pradesh. The curriculum will entail holistic subjects such as yoga, art, agriculture to "teach the children where to look, but not what to see".

Emirati Student Fundraiser  UAE

Can you image selling tea to your friends at university and raising 3,000 AED for Monyati? Meet Ahmed, a local student from Al Ain: "I aways bring my thermos of tea to my university. I bring enough for my friends as well. Of course I never asked for money. I am going to use my reputation as a tea maker to fundraise for Monyati. My goal is to fundraise 3,000 AED by selling tea at my college." The real enablers behind our efforts!

Education in Dhaka Bangladesh

Three years ago we partnered with a slum school in Dhaka Bangladesh. From initial 105 students in 2012, they now enroll 595 children at eight different locations. A truly amazing achievement. The school is managed on the ground by Jacob and his team. At no other school have we seen so joyful and extrovert children. Special thanks to our key private donor for enabling this massive expansion.
