STAFF NEWS - AR Workshops

Kim Newall ran two Augmented Reality (AR) enabled ‘Awhi Creature’ workshops at the Accelerating Aotearoa Geek Camp. Kim collaborated with AwhiWorld founder Maggie Buxton, to create a magical experience for intermediate aged school kids in South Auckland. With guidance from the facilitators, the children produced their own AR markers, created AR creature superpowers and extra appendages, and composed their own creature-inspired musical scores. Viewed through the screen of mobile phones the creatures came alive!

The collaboration with AwhiWorld is an extension of Kim’s artistic practice and forms the basis of ongoing research into how best to empower lay audiences to engage with emerging technologies.
