Diabetes Programme

Our latest update is from Diabetes Programme Lead, Laura Spratling

Diabetes Improvement Collaborative

Last week (10th Feb) the Improvement Collaborative held a second successful workshop, attended by Consultants, Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Dieticians, service users, administrators and managers from across London. Participating teams are making good progress on their local plans to improve access to insulin pump therapy for people with Type 1 Diabetes.

Alongside protected time to work together on these plans, this workshop offered these multi-disciplinary teams focus sessions on making the case for commissioners, access to structured education and psychological support for people with Type 1 Diabetes.

For more information about the project please download the Project Fact Sheet on Improving Access to Insulin Pump Therapy or contact Faye Edwards, Project Manager.

Hypoglycaemia pathway development workshop

More than 50 London Ambulance Service (LAS) colleagues, service users, Diabetes healthcare professionals and commissioners, from 13 London boroughs attended a workshop sponsored by one of our industry partners  to improve integration of care for people who experience severe hyper or hypoglycaemic episodes that require ambulance services. Using the Health Innovation Network and LAS data analysis , alongside pathway examples from elsewhere in England, the group developed ideas on how care can be improved. It was a vibrant workshop and the teams will now receive support from the HIN to further develop and implement their plans.

For further information about this project please download the Project Fact Sheet or contact Alice Ridley

Improving access to structured education in type 2 Diabetes

We had a successful meeting on Optimal Delivery of Structured Education in ‘harder to reach’ groups. Local work is progressing well on increasing access to structured education, and teams are invited to apply for small grants from the Health Innovation Network to support local innovation. Staff Health and Wellbeing Conference

It's not every day you get 200 healthcare professionals under one roof introducing themselves to other delegates with their best Santa ‘ho ho ho’ belly laugh… It’s quite a sight. If you’ve never tried yogic laughing, you should.  It was certainly a great start to our staff health and wellbeing conference, jointly held with King’s Health Partners. Our recent Staff Health and Wellbeing Conference was a real success with some great presentations and discussions led by Dame Carol Black, Earl Howe and a number of examples of best practice from across the sector including industry partners as well some really eye opening stories from leaders across our health and care system. BUT this is just the start of our staff health and wellbeing journey across South London.
