Ash Wednesday
February 18, 2015
Worship @ 6:30pm
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent - the time when commit our lives to the practices of prayer, self-denial, generosity, and service to others as we seek to grow deeper in our faith and stronger in community (click to read further thoughts about Ash Wednesday and Lent).
The Ash Wednesday service is a powerful call to changed lives and deeper faith. As we are marked with ashes, we are reminded to make the most of our lives. The ashes serve as a sign and a reminder of those changed lives (click to read more about the ashes of Ash Wednesday).
We will gather at Spirit of Joy! for worship at 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 18. Our guest preacher will be Bishop Mike Rinehart of the Gulf Coast Synod of the ELCA.
As we enter into the season of Lent, Bishop Mike's new book (Learning to Pray Again) will serve our guide as we seek to renew our prayer lives. Copies of the book are available from the church office or through Amazon in print or electronic form.
Throughout Lent, we will gather for a time of worship and prayer on Wednesdays at 6:30pm. Following our weekly Lenten worship, we will have a discussion and study of the practice of prayer.
May your Ash Wednesday and Lent be meaningful and renewing!
