Meet our DJ for the night!

Our DJ for the night at Mi Serenata Tango Milonga is Kiong 'El Seńor' Tan.

Kiong has been in the Perth Tango scene since 1997 and though he requires no introduction as he is so familiar to us all, so few of us know where and how he started his journey. Below is an excerpt from the man himself:

"I found tango pretty much by accident. I followed a friend to a dance class not knowing it was Argentine Tango and was totally captivated by it.

I have been involved in DJ-ing for the last 15 years, including for tango events run by Juan Rando and Pedro Arandia. My favourite orchestras include Di Sarli, D'Arienzo, Pugliese, Biagi, Lomuto and Donato.

I was also involved in teaching tango with Kyoko over the years, including at the UWA, the Perth Dance Studio and the famous Astoria Cafe where the Latin dances were happening."

Kiong, together with Kyoko, continues to inspire us all with his musicality, tango knowledge, teaching and personality. His former students still tango to this day and are some of the best dancers in Perth. He (together with Kyoko) has great integrity and gives alot of himself to both nurture the scene and as a senior ambassador to Perth Tango. We are very privileged to have someone like him (and Kyoko of course) in our scene.

We are honoured to have Kiong as our DJ at our Mi Serenata Tango on Saturday 28th February.

In Memory of....

John Lane

Just to inform those people who knew John Lane. John passed away on February 16 @ 8 :40 am.

John’s passion in his life was tango. He had been dancing it for over 15 years – not just in Australia. John passed away peacefully and pain free after suffering for 5 years with a brain tumour.
Even in his dying few months he loved to listen to tango music.

Mi Serenata, together with Vera Roberts, John's long time carer and a fellow Tanguera, will honour John with a tanda on the night. We ask all who attend to join in and dance to some beautiful vals which John himself would have loved.

Let us never forget our tango friends who have left us and whom had embraced tango in their lives and whom had loved life itself. Rest in peace, John.
