Holiness, Godliness, Usefulness

Lesson 583: Fear of God, Pt.4
God’s children fear Him in terms of honor and respect for His majesty, glory and holiness.
As we consider God’s infinite perfection and grace, our heart is moved to love and adore Him. You won’t be devoted to God unless you are first filled with fear of God.
God’s children can run to Him as their heavenly Father, as a child runs to their earthly father. We can come boldly before God with our requests.
Gal.4:6 because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
Rom.8:15 you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Heb.4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Heb.10:19 we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus
Yet at the same time, we recognize that our culture (including professing Christians) is far too casual, addressing God as “the big man upstairs” and “my co-pilot”.
They are missing the sense of reverent awe that is reserved for God alone, the Creator, the Sustainer of the universe.
Heb.12:28-29 let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
