2014 Reader's Choice Poll

This is the 2nd year for our Reader’s Choice Award which will include all titles published by RDSP in 2014. The first step is a poll anyone can vote in.

This round narrows the field to 4 titles. A team of readers will then read and evaluate all 4 books to choose a winner.

If you would like to be considered for the judging team and do not know any of the authors personally email us.

All 3 RDSP Titles Make the Bram Stoker Ballot

You may remember last month we mentioned that 3 of our books were being considered for the final ballot for the Bram Stoker Award. Well, we were stunned to find that all 3 made it on and are now official nominees!

Even better, none of out books are in the same category so they aren't competing with each other.
Mr. Wicker by Maria Alexander (Superior Achievement in a First Novel)
Soft Apocalypses by Lucy A. Snyder (Superior Achievement in a Fiction Collection)
Mourning Jewelry by Stephanie Wytovich (Superior Achievement in a Poetry Collection)

**To celebrate we're offering all 3 books together for $30 including shipping.** (US Addresses Only)

Women in Horror Q&A Recap

We had originally planned our Women in Horror panel discussion as a bookstore event at Ukazoo Books in Towson, MD. However, there was a big snowstorm the day of the event so we had to postpone (the new date is April 26th, 2-4pm).

We decided to take the event online by doing a Google On Air Hangout instead. Though we had never done one before it turned out fabulously. All the panelists had amazing insights to share! Now you can watch the panel on YouTube.

Women in Horror Spotlight

As part of our celebration of Women in Horror Month we put together a series of short, timely interviews with women whose books we've published.
Lucy Snyder: "When I was starting out as a writer, supportive boyfriends were few and far between. One boyfriend read one of my stories and asked me 'Why can’t you write anything nice?' Another, who had literary ambitions of his own, looked disdainfully at a contributor’s copy of a magazine that had come in the mail and sniffed, 'Well, I could do that, too, if I wanted to be in some silly horror magazine!'" Read the full spotlight interview.

Donna Lynch: "I am rarely treated with blatant disrespect by my peers, but in both my writing and music career, I often have to 'prove' myself harder than the guy next to me. That's why I wouldn't want to write anything with the intent of getting a female audience. Horror should be gender-neutral. Everyone feels fear." Read the full spotlight interview.
Maria Alexander: "It bothers me deeply that we still use the adjective 'strong' before the words 'female character' just so we can talk about someone with integrity, courage, agency and intelligence—someone with a character arc that doesn’t leave them dead on the sidelines or merely rescued. She’s a whole person, someone with concerns that don’t involve 'getting a man.'" Read the full spotlight interview.

Stephanie Wytovich: "I love being able to find the gorgeous in the blackness, the lovely in the dark. Whether I’m writing dark fantasy, gothic prose, or splatterpunk gore, I think there’s something valuable in monstrosity, and sometimes I think it takes the graphic and stark realism of tragedy for us to learn from our past and present in order to have a better future." Read the full spotlight interview.

We also interviewed several women who are not RDSP authors: Jessica McHugh, Damien Angelica Walters & Deena Warner.

Pre-Order: Steel Victory by J.L. Gribble

One hundred years ago, the vampire Victory retired from a centuries-long mercenary career. She settled in Limani, the independent city-state acting as a neutral zone between the British and Roman colonies on the New Continent.

Twenty years ago, Victory adopted a human baby girl, who soon showed signs of magical ability.

Today, Victory is a city councilwoman, balancing the human and supernatural populations within Limani. Her daughter Toria is a warrior-mage, balancing life as an apprentice mercenary with college chemistry courses.

Tomorrow, the Roman Empire invades.
