What difference can a simple bonfire make?
It could be the difference between life and death. It could be the difference between brokenness and restoration.
<<First Name>>,
When the King of Tara saw that someone dared light a fire on the Hill of Slane, he arranged a meeting with the “dead man” who defied his authority. But instead of commanding a death-sentence, Laoghaire was actually impressed by Patrick's devotion. And, despite his defiance (or perhaps because of it), he let him continue his missionary work in Ireland. The rest, as they say, is history!
Fast-forward about 1600 years, and the question could be put this way: what difference can a simple radio programme make? And the answer could very well be the same: It could be the difference between life and death. It could be the difference between brokenness and restoration.
We honestly cannot not keep the fires burning without your partnership. The needs have perhaps never been more evident, nor the opportunities more abundant. However, the challenges have never been greater. We’ve had to make some severe cuts to our budget due to decreased contributions; and without your help, we will face an even greater shortfall this year...
One doesn’t have to look far to realise that families in Ireland are under attack. As one of our key supporters so aptly put it, “I see it every day of the week in my professional life. The battle is for the heart and soul of the family which must be protected. I see children having children, complete breakdown in family relationships, no role models, absent fathers, no respect from minors for their parents, no moral code and compass to direct and guide young children and their parents. Who is their role model if they are divorced from having a faith or attending Christian church where they hear the truth? So the change must come from within. People need to be awakened to see there is a better life for children and families and the destructive forces that are pounding on every front (e.g education, social media) can be arrested and stopped.”
It is with all of that in mind that we produce custom radio programmes each week. Each week we distribute our programmes to five radio stations around the country. Like a bonfire burning in the night, our hope and prayer is that listeners will see a “different fire” which they may not find anywhere else in the media or culture today.
Thank you again for the part you play in strengthening individuals, marriages and families across Ireland. Have a great St.Patrick's Day, and we pray that 2015 will be a year in which the fires of transformation burn ever brighter with God’s help!
Sincerely,
Stephen Cardy,
Chief Executive, Family.ie
