We've Been Making Some
 Changes

Members who have visited the website were probably surprised to see we have a new website. I am the new Communications Chair, I own GO Mobile a web development/marketing company. I have created a responsive website so all those interested can now access Eno's website on their smartphones and tablets!

I am also creating more attractive and deliverable Newsletters, starting with this one. We hope you like the new format.

Important: <<First Name>>, we are currently changing our email communication provider. In the next day or so you will be receiving an email inviting you to subscribe to the new members email list. This email will come from no_reply@zoho.com, please whitelist this domain in your email or at least check your spam folder so you do not miss the invitation. After accepting the invitation all future pool emails will come from one of our normal @enoorcas.com addresses.

Thank you for working with us as we make changes to improve communication methods for our members.

Clubhouse Renovations

Through the kindness of The Summit Church, Clubhouse renovations are underway and will be completed by pool opening.

We would like to thank Summit for this gift to our membership.
Greetings Eno Orcas!

Plans for swim team are underway and we are looking forward to a great season!

Before we talk about this season, we want to take this opportunity to extend a big “Thank You” to Denise Fleming.  Denise has been the Swim Team Parent Representative and Eno Valley Board Swim Chairperson for many years.  She single handedly managed all the details and all the volunteers it takes to have a successful team and keep swim meets running smoothly. Denise, we will miss you!

This year, there are two Eno Valley Board Members assigned to managing the Orca Swim Team.  Mary Beth Hawkins is the Swim Team Parent Representative / Chairperson.  Lyn Mattioli is the Swim Team Co-Chairperson.  Mary Beth and her family have been members of the pool 10 years and have been extensively involved with swim team.  She has a daughter who swims for the Orcas.  Lyn Mattioli has been involved with swim for the past two years.  She has a son who swims for the Orcas and a younger son who participates in the Little Orcas Developmental program.

Depending upon weather, pool conditions, etc…, swim team practice is projected to begin the week of May 18th.  Watch the website for an official start date as we get closer to May. Blake Williams will be the head coach training the Orcas again this season.  Blake has done a fantastic job leading the kids.  Blake and his team are very engaged and encourage the kids during meets.  Last year, Blake had a game plan for practices that helped many kids to swim personal best times during the season.  He and the assistant coaches also had extra incentives for the kids.  The kids received a Swedish fish and got to autograph a coaches’ shirt when they placed in races or swam personal best times.  We don’t know what Blake specifically has planned for this season, but we know the kids will train hard and have fun doing it.

The Little Orcas Developmental program helps your child strengthen their swim skills.  If your child is not able to swim at least a lap across the pool, the Little Orcas is great place for them to get start.  The Little Orca lessons will be led by Lindy Norman again. The kids love Lindy.  During a swim season, she is able to help many of the kids improve enough to transition to the Orca team.  The Little Orcas will practice on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  Space in the Little Orca program is limited so that each child can get the help they need.  The space is filled on a “first come, first serve” basis.  If you’d like your child to start in Little Orcas, register early.  If Little Orcas fills up, we will place your child on a ‘wait list’.  As Lindy helps her swimmers graduate to swimming with the Orcas, we’ll invite your child to join the Little Orcas.

If you’ve been around the swim team for a season or two, you know it takes a village to run a swim meet.  We look forward to working will all the Orca parents at the swim meets this year.  We will need many volunteers to help with each meet.  We will continue to use links to Sign Up Genius through the Eno Valley website to sign up for swim meets, stroke sign ups and swim meet parent volunteer positions.  If you have older children who are not swimmers, but are willing to help, you may sign them up to help at meets.

The swim meet schedule is posted on the website.  You will notice that there are 5 regular season meets this season and they will all be at our Eno Valley pool.  The DSSL city wide swim meet is the weekend of July 10th and 11th. Kids really enjoy this meet and usually swim their personal best times of the season at this meet.  Please make plans to have your Orca swim at Champs this year.

Sign up forms for Eno Valley Orca Swim Team and for the Little Orca Developmental program will be posted on the website later this spring.  The team swim suit from last year is no longer available.  We will be posting information about the new swim suit chosen for ’15. If you would like a new suit for your child or your child needs to be custom fit with new swim goggles, we will schedule the same company we have used in the past, SKS Sports Shop, to attend at least two practices early in the season so you may purchase these.

If you have any questions or apprehension about signing your child up for swim team, please let us know.  One concern many people have is their perception of the commitment it takes to be involved.  Once school is out, practices are offered in the morning and the evening.  You do not have to bring your child to both practices.  There are morning and evening practices to provide options for parents.  You are not pressured to attend every practice and every meet during the season.  We understand that it is summer and families have vacations and other commitments during this time.  The Orcas are made up of a bunch of skilled coaches, fun kids and encouraging parents.  We would love to have you become a part of the Orca family.

- Mary Beth Hawkins and Lyn Mattioli
