Count down to 7th NIRA Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is around the corner. We have commenced preparations and activities for the NIRA 7 th AGM as the notice was circulated to the public by the NiRA Secretariat. The Executive Board of Directors has approved the AGM will hold on the 30 th of April 2015.
I have no doubt that this year’s AGM will be very interesting, it’s our election year. There are four posts that the occupants’ tenures would be over on the day of the AGM; the posts of President, Vice-President and those of two Executive Board of Directors. Nominations for these soon-to-be vacant positions would be accepted on-line. You would need to visit NiRA website http://www.nira.org.ng/. Financial members are expected to nominate candidates for these to be declared vacant positions. Nominations would not be accepted on the floor of the AGM that day. There would be physical voting and counting of votes. These are interesting times.
The AGM would hold at “NIRA HOUSE” located at 8 Funsho Williams Avenue, Iponri, Suru-lere, Lagos State, Nigeria. The building “NIRA HOUSE” was a stakeholders’ effort to take NIRA to greater heights. The building was purchased and renovated from the proceeds of premium domain name sales. We cease this opportunity to thank everyone that has contributed to the growth of NiRA, your support and contributions are highly appreciated.
Also, as part of the efforts to lift NiRA to greater heights, increase the awareness of .ng domain names and educate/enlighten the public, the Communication & Publicity Committee at NiRA, on the 5 th of March 2015, hosted the Gentlemen of the press to a “ONE-DAY MEDIA COLLEGE ON .NG”. The theme of the event is “Effective Reporting of Domain Name Industry in Nigeria. The invitation was thrown open to the Gentlemen of the Press. The Resources were drawn from both in-house and practitioners in the industry
The idea of the NIRA MEDIA COLLEGE was conceived to continuously empower and update media practitioners in the country on the Domain Name System (DNS) industry. You can see the media college website for more information of the NIRA Media College: http://nira.org.ng/mediacollege/
We anticipate very interesting, engaging and educative event with our media partners.

Domain Name Report – January to February 2015
The registration of .ng domain names is gradually progressing this year. From available figures, there were fewer registrations in February 2015 than in January 2015. We can attribute the difference to the number of days in the months, January having 31 days and February with just 28 days in a month. With increased public interest, greater awareness drive and some outlined outreach programmes, Nigeria is positioned for growth in this business this year. There is no doubt that the numbers will increase drastically this year.
