Mammoths came to the Museum

The February General Meeting was a great success.  Our speaker, Mark Hylkema, gave a mesmerizing talk on an archeological excavation taking place in Castroville--the site were Mammoth bones were discovered in 2011.

Mark has directed excavations throughout the greater San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas and teaches Anthropology at Foothill College.  Mark is the third of four generations of Sunnyvale residents and is an expert in local pre-history and early colonial history very well.

We have posted a video of part of the talk online.  It can be found on our new YouTube channel HERE.  More background and photos on the excavation can be found on our Facebook Page.

Thanks again to those of you who attended our February General Meeting and heard Mark Hylkema's talk on "Excavating the Castroville Mammoths."  We will definitely have him back as a speaker at one of our future meetings.

Congratulations, Leslie!

The Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce held the 50th Annual Murphy Award Celebration last month, and Leslie Lawton received the Murphy Award for Lifetime Community Contribution.

Leslie is the Historical Society's Vice President, and among her many duties, she is the editor of our monthly Historical Society Newsletter and schedules the many interesting speakers for our general meetings.

We thank her for all of her hard work and her long-time commitment to the museum and to the Sunnyvale community at large.

Leslie, you are most deserving!
