As schools and school districts explore the
implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI)
frameworks to address the needs of all learners,
students with language impairments (LI) are in danger
of getting lost in the shuffle. In this workshop, which is a
follow-up* to Dr. Ehren's November 2014 session at the
ACSLPA conference ("The SLP as a Significant
Collaborator in Schools: How Inclusive Practices and
RTI Can Make It Happen"), S-LPs will learn how to
design and structure interventions in collaboration
with classroom teachers. They will also learn specific
evidence-based practices to address the language
underpinning gaps typically found in students with LI.

The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists, Dietitians of Canada and Speech-Language and Audiology Canada are pleased to present this interprofessional workshop specifically geared towards clinicians practicing in the area of dysphagiaThe workshop will provide speech-language pathologists with an opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in interprofessional dysphagia assessment and management.

Catriona Steele, PhD, S-LP(C), an expert in dysphagia and one of the workshop organizers, wrote an article explaining why this workshop is so innovative. She states:


"By listening to the perspectives of a variety of different professionals, we will be able to appreciate and articulate the different types of expertise that each profession brings to the table.... Optimal care for people with dysphagia requires professionals with a variety of training backgrounds to collaborate to deliver a range of services together, in the patient’s best interest."
