Collaborative Community Response – Special Project Announcement

As a provincial network, AASAS has an important role:

Raise awareness about the issue of sexual assault and abuse

Ensuring that when people reach out for help, that there are services available to them

With funding from the Status of Women Canada, AASAS will be working in up to five rural and remote communities in Alberta to support the development of coordinated sexual assault crisis response teams.

Using a community development model the AASAS Collaborative Community Response Coordinator is supporting communities to formalize and coordinate their response to recent sexual assault.  These teams are often referred to as a Sexual Assault Response Teams (SART).

“This Government of Canada funding will allow us to improve how we help victims of sexual assault by sharing best practices between service providers. This project will provide the specialized assistance that victims need in communities all across Alberta" – Debra Tomlinson, AASAS Chief Executive Officer.
