Lama Tsering Gyaltsen
Final Visit of Teaching Cycle at Saraha
Sun. Feb. 15, 11 am - 3 pm
For the last few months Saraha founding teacher Lama Tsering Gyaltsen has been visiting Saraha on Sundays to teach Tibetan language and Dharma topics and lead our weekly Chenresig Compassion meditation practice. Sunday, March 15marks Lama's last visit of this teaching cycle, following which he will be occupied elsewhere for some months. Students are encouraged to attend this last day's event, to see and learn from Lama Gyaltsen one more time, to join in Tsok practice to accumulate merit and purify obscurations and especially to thank Lama for his constant kind attention in helping & supporting Saraha and us all.
Given a moment and opportunity like this, we need to respond to Lama's kindness. If we can't feel it or can't be troubled to, we need to catch ourselves, to look again.

Some people admire Buddhism for its hands-on practical approach to living and awakening, not relying on supramundane mechanisms to prove its point. Some people however need magical examples to be convinced. This was true in the time of Shakyamuni Buddha as it is now. Fortunately, both approaches, the magical and the mundane, are workable in Buddhism, and Buddha Shakyamuni employed both effortlessly, as needed, from time to time. Famously, at one point Shakyamuni Buddha displayed a different miracle each day for 15 consecutive days. This episode is celebrated on the 15th day of the Buddhist new year as Chotrul Duchen, the Great Holiday of Buddha Miracles. Here at Saraha we will celebrate this holiday on Thursday, March 5 from 7 - 8:30 pm, by Shower of Blessings Tsok Gathering practice, and reading of an account of these miracles.
Everyone welcome. Please bring Tsok (clean healthy food) offering for a contribution to this celebration.

Saraha Children's School, the daily downstairs denizens of the Institute, is in the news again. This time as the lead story "Dharma in the Classroom" of the Eugene Weekly News Magazine's Feb. 26 Education edition (still at newstands through March 5) ... Thanks to the EW staff for doing this very sweet and positive story on our school.
Breaking news here is that we need children/families to enroll for classes for next year. Like now. If you are hovering, please step up. The school will be holding an "Info Night" Open House orientation meeting on Thursday, March 5 from 5 - 6:30 pm... come of you like, or tell our story, tell a friend...
A Special Invitation from the Oregon State Hospital System
Accepting an invitation from the spiritual care staff of Oregon State Hospital system, last week Saraha founding teacher Lama Tsering Gyaltsen and delegates from Saraha Nyingma Buddhist Institute visited a soon-to-open psychiatric hospital in Junction City, Oregon, with the express mission of blessing that facility prior to the arrival of its first patients (next week). Passing through many many locked doors, we toured this large building floor-by-floor, ward-by-ward and in some places room-by-room. An intense, eye-opening and compassion getting experience. You all please get some too...With best wishes and prayers for the patients of this new hospital and for the staff and caregivers who will try to help them...

The Saraha Nyingma Buddhist Institute, or "Saraha" for short, is a registered 501(c)(3) status non-profit religious organization based in Eugene, Oregon, USA. Following the Buddha's teachings of Enlightenment, and practicing according to the Dudjom Lineage of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism, Saraha offers a full schedule of regular temple meditation events, special teachings events, and educational courses.
