The Dover Quartet

The “Young American string quartet of the moment” (New Yorker) returns to Los Angeles playing a program of Mozart, Ullmann and Schubert at the Doheny Mansion: March 14th at 8PM

Presented by the Da Camera Society: Chamber Music in Historic Sites

Quartet continues to electrify audiences and critics with their “masterly nuanced” performances and trademark “gutsy and earthy sound” (
Wall Street Journal)

“For me, this was string quartet nirvana…I hope they will never alter the inherent sonic beauty of their approach, which already assures them a spot among the finest of currently active quartets.” (James Keller, Santa Fe New Mexican)

“The Dover Quartet’s Kennedy Center debut shows why they should be on must-hear list…..a triumph.”  (Washington Post)

February 17, 2015 (New York, NY) – It has been a whirlwind 2014-2015 season for the“Excellent and fast-rising” (New York Times) Dover Quartet since their remarkable sweep of the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition, where they  triumphed, earning all top prizes.  Without question, the young Quartet is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after string quartets in North America. After their 2014 debuts at the Kennedy Center and with the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, the Washington Post declared that "lovers of chamber music should put the Dover Quartet on their to-hear list", and the Santa Fe New Mexican dubbed the Dover “A quartet to reckon with." On March 14th, the Da Camera Society presents The Dover Quartet at Los Angeles' famed historic Doheny Mansion, where they will play Mozart's Quartet in D, Schubert's String Quartet in C, and Viktor Ullmann's String Quartet in D.

Other season highlights have included a triumphant debut with the Fortas Chamber Music Series at the Kennedy Center, the Chamber Music Society of Detroit, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, University of California San Diego’s ArtPower!, and a headlining evening with the Tertulia Chamber Music Series in NYC.  Recently profiled in a Cultural Conversation by Barrymore Scherer  (The Wall Street Journal,) the Dover Quartet continues to impress as one of the most talked about young ensembles in classical music.

Throughout 2013-2014, the Philadelphia-based Quartet delivered stellar performances that featured their Los Angeles and San Francisco recital debuts, an ongoing residency at Caramoor, and delivered them to key summer music festivals including their return to the Savannah Music Festival, and their debuts with the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and Bravo! Vail.

Formed at the Curtis Institute in 2008 when its members were only 19, the Dover Quartet (named for Dover Beach by Samuel Barber – a fellow Curtis alumnus) has received significant public attention for its intricate artistry and astounding maturity. Their wins at Banff brought them into the international spotlight and were highlighted by CBC Music as the “Top 10 Classical Music Triumphs of 2013.” Recognized by The Strad as “already pulling away from their peers with their exceptional interpretative maturity, tonal refinement and taut ensemble”, the Quartet has performed in numerous festivals around the world, including Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival and  La Jolla SummerFest, and has held residencies at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, Caramoor, Chamber Music Northwest and Bravo! Vail. They continue to perform at their Philadelphia alma mater, where they were named the school’s first Quartet-in-Residence.
