Pause in the middle of your day for this time of reflective prayer. We contemplate our call and blessing to live in the love and grace of God, experienced through the cross of Jesus.  Come as you are from home or take a lunch break from work - bring a co-worker, neighbor, or friend!

Lenten Friday Night Fish Fry

Preschool Night

Fridays, 5:00 - 7:30

We sold 77 dinners last week plus the eight that are delivered to our Meals on Wheels people.  If anyone would like to pass out flyers in their neighborhood, we can make copies for you. Interestingly, we have had 14 flyers returned ($2 discount if you bring the flyer in), so the Good News Walkers are spreading the good news about the fish fry and Holy Week services!  This week is Preschool Night – preschool kids eat free and we have a presentation on Family Promise (see below). Our Preschool and Afterschool Care children will be singing for us at the Fish Fry as well!  So come out and be inspired by their literal childlike faith! Lutheran Campus Ministry will receive the proceeds from this event – come out and support them.Adult dinners are $7 and children under ten $4. Contact Karen Kranz for information – sign-up for volunteers is online (Sign-Up Genius) or in the Administration Bldg.

Family Promise Ministry
to share at Fish Fry
This Friday, March 6

Columbia has opened our hearts & doors for this national program.  Family Promise brings the faith community together to help families regain their housing, independence, and dignity. It offers opportunities for volunteers to reduce homelessness and transform lives.   To learn how Living Springs can be involved, there will be a representative at our Fish Fry, Mar 6 @ 6pm. See Karen Kranz or visit www.familypromisemidlands.org

Backpacks will be packed on Wednesdays during Lent at 5 pm (through Mar. 18.) Currently, we are in need of boxed milk and applesauce/diced fruit or fresh fruit items.

In a few weeks, we will be packing 140 bags for spring break.  Please remember these children when you do your shopping and put an extra item in your basket to support the backpack ministry – even one item helps!  Our priority items are milk, fruit, meat items and cereal.  If you are not able to shop, monetary donations are always welcome – indicate “backpack ministry” in the memo section.  Thank you

Worship Assistant Training

Sunday, March 15 9:30AM

We will be conducting training for all Assisting Ministers, Communion Assistants, Lectors and Ushers at 9:30 AM on Sunday, March 15. We ask that all members who serve in these important worship roles join us for a short 15 minute training. This training is important because some changes are being made for Ushers, Assisting Ministers and Communion Assistants. We would also like provide refresher training for everyone, regardless of level of experience.

Assisting Ministers, Communion Assistants and Lectors will meet in the sanctuary. Ushers will meet in the narthex. Training will begin promptly at 9:30.

If you are unable to attend on March 15, please contact Steve Bloss at sbloss1947@gmail.com to arrange for a makeup session.

The changes will begin starting with Easter morning worship services.

Thrivent Event:

Godspell at Trustus Theater on Saturday, March 28 at 2 pm

Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, a small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs ranging in style from pop to vaudeville is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance, and love come vibrantly to life.  All Thrivent members and members of our congregation are invited.  There is a limited supply of tickets allocated to each congregation, so if you are interested, contact Karen Kranz by March 9.
Congratulations to a member of Living Springs family, Coach Anne Long, and her Spring Valley High School Girls Basketball Team. They won the Upper State Championship on Monday and will play in the state finals on Friday, March 6th. Good luck!

Lessons for Sunday, March 8

First Reading: Exodus 20:1–17

After escaping from slavery, the Israelites come to Mount Sinai, where God teaches them how to live in community. The ten commandments proclaim that God alone is worthy of worship. Flowing from God, the life of the community flourishes when based on honesty, trust, fidelity, and respect for life, family, and property.

Psalm (ELW): Psalm 19

The commandment of the LORD gives light  to the eyes. (Ps. 19:8)

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:18–25

The word of the cross is pure foolishness and nonsense to the world because it claims that God is mostly revealed in weakness, humiliation, and death. But through such divine foolishness and weakness, God is working to save us. The center of Paul's preaching is Christ crucified.

Gospel: John 2:13–22

Jesus attacks the commercialization of religion by driving merchants out of the temple. When challenged, he responds mysteriously, with the first prediction of his own death and resurrection. In the midst of a seemingly stable religious center, Jesus suggests that the center itself has changed.
