Research Launch - Third Sector Supporting Children and families

Early learning and childcare funding to double

Funding for free nursery places delivering early learning and childcare will double over the term of the next Parliament, increasing opportunities for families and giving children the best start in life, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has pledged.  Read more...

Scottish Childcare ‘Not Enough’ For Working Parents

Fewer than one in six councils in Scotland have enough childcare capacity to meet the needs of working parents, according to new research. The FACT study said 15% of local authorities had enough childcare for parents who worked full-time, down from 23% when the survey was carried out in 2013. Read more

Stakeholder Survey

GCVS is carrying out an annual stakeholder evaluation of our work as part of the city's Third Sector Interface.  We would like to ask our members and other stakeholders about their experience of using our services and would be very grateful if you could take the time to complete our questionnaire, which will give you the opportunity to give us your views on all aspects of our work. We will use this information and that from other Interface partners to report back to the Scottish Government and to review and improve the way we work.  The survey will close on Tuesday 17th March at 4.00pm and will take around 15 minutes to complete - your contribution is much appreciated.  The link to the survey can be found here - GCVS Annual Stakeholder Survey.

The Spiralling Cost Of Private Nurseries

The cost of a part-time nursery place for children under two in Scotland has increased by 33 per cent since 2010, according to new research. A survey by the UK-wide Family and Childcare Trust (FACT) found parents are now paying an annual average of more than £6,000 a year, a rise of 5% since 2013.  Read more  

Campaigners To Appeal ‘Named Person’ Judgment

Campaigners who legally challenged plans to appoint a “named person” for every child in Scotland are to appeal a judge’s decision to dismiss the case. In January, a petition for judicial review of the proposals was rejected. The No to Named Persons group said it will continue its fight against the legislation. Read more

£5m Learning Disabilities Research Centre Opens

Children and young people with learning difficulties are set to benefit from a new £5 million research and support centre at the University of Edinburgh in association with the charity Mindroom. The Salvesen Mindroom Centre to understand and resolve learning difficulties will be the first of its kind in the UK. Read more

The Support for Children (Impact of Parental Imprisonment) (Scotland) Bill
  The Support for Children (Impact of Parental Imprisonment) (Scotland) Bill was launched on Thursday 5th February 2015 and is now seeking responses as part of the consultation. This consultation describes, and seeks views on, changes to the public procurement rules in Scotland. These changes largely arise from three new EU Procurement Directives and the Procurement Reform (Scotland) Act 2014, including Statutory Guidance and will result in new Procurement Regulations.

Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland Funding Surgery 10th March

Charities working in and around Glasgow are invited to come for a face to face chat about funding opportunities with Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland.  An advice surgery will be held all day on Tuesday 10th March 2015 at the Robertson Trust’s offices, 151 Bath Street, Glasgow, G2 4TB. They last for 45 minutes and can be booked by calling 0131 444 4020 or emailing enquiries@ltsbfoundationforscotland.org.uk
 


The Henry Smith's Charity Holiday Grants for Children

Grants towards holidays or outings within the UK for children aged 13 and under who are from deprived areas or have a disability. The maximum grant is usually £2,500 for any one trip. Grants are normally limited to a maximum of two-thirds of the total cost of a trip.  Deadline 19th March 2015.  More..
 


The Lloyds TSB Foundation’s Partnership Drugs Initiative (PDI)

Aims to increase the well-being of children and young people affected by drugs and alcohol. In particular the Foundations wants to support children and young people affected by parental substance issues (drugs and alcohol); pre-teen children at high risk of developing problems with drugs and alcohol; and young people who are developing or have established substance use problems (drugs and alcohol). There is a two-stage application process for the Partnership Drugs Initiative (PDI) awards. Applicants need to be registered charities based in Scotland and they will need to work with their local Alcohol & Drug Partnership (ADP) to complete an initial outline application.  Deadline for the initial outline application form is the 15th May 2015.  More info...

Asda Carrier Bag Community Grants

ASDA will provide up to £2000 to help projects and good causes in their local communities. Charities and community groups with an income under £250,000 and 3 or more board members can apply. Applications are accepted and assessed on a rolling basis. More... 
 


BBC Children in Need Main Grant Programme

For organisations that work with young people who are suffering from; illness; distress; abuse or neglect; are disabled; have behavioural or psychological difficulties; or are living in poverty or situations of deprivation. Water charge exemption scheme

 The Scottish Government has announced details of a new scheme which will help charities registered with the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) with the cost of their water and waste water bills. It’s called the Scottish Government Water and Sewerage Charges Exemption Scheme. This scheme will replace the current. Deadline for current scheme 2014 scheme 31 March 2015.  More...

Getting to Know GIRFEC: what Getting it Right for Every Child means for Children and Young People  - Training for Trainers' Workshop

 Wednesday March 4th, 9.30 – 12.30

This free training event, delivered jointly by GCVS Everyone’s Children Project and the Health and Social Care Alliance GIRFEC team, is designed to help those working in this field to better understand GIRFEC, and to be able to deliver GIRFEC information sessions to parents and children.

Everyone's Children Research Launch
The Third Sector Supporting Children and Families

Friday 13th March 9.30 - 12.30  Albany Centre

The project is launching a major research report looking at the contribution of the Third Sector in delivering GIRFEC in Glasgow. The event will highlight the massive contribution to all aspects of delivering  wellbeing for Glasgow’s children and young people. It will also present findings on  the experience of working in partnership with the public sector. The reports recommendation’s will also form the basis of a proposed action plan to strengthen the third sector’s contribution as Glasgow produces a new Integrated Children’s Services Plan and to Implement the provisions of the new Children and Young Peoples Act.  Book your place....


Glasgow Life Play Get Together networking meeting 
Wednesday 4th March 10am

Glasgow Play projects and organisations are invited to a Play Get Together networking meeting on Wednesday 4th March 10am until 1pm followed by a networking lunch in the City Halls, Studio 1, Albion Street, Candleriggs, Glasgow, G1 1NQ.  Registration at 9.45am.  The Get Together is an opportunity to catch up with national and local play news.  The theme for this meeting is how to encourage street play and to plan for Play Day 15.  If you would like to attend the Get Together please contact the Glasgow Life Admin Team by Friday 27th February 2015 - GLHQAdmin3@glasgowlife.org.uk stating the name of your organisation, who will attend, relevant contact details and any dietary requirements.

Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector
COSCA-certified Certificate in Counselling Skills

Gain a professionally recognised qualification in Counselling Skills. This training is accredited by COSCA - Scotland's professional body for counselling and  psychotherapy. Four modules, delivered at the Albany Learning and Conference Centre over 20 sessions, from late March until November 2015.
