KNITTING AND GAMES NIGHT

Friday, March 6, from 6 to 9 p.m:  Knitting and board games will be featured at First Unitarian’s Bookstore Cafe.  Join in the fun as experienced needle crafters show you how to knit and crochet, or just play games and chill.
It’s Time for Mystery Buddies!

In this fun intergenerational program, children and adults or youth are matched with a Mystery Buddy. In the process, each pair learns a little more about each other every week from March 8-March 29 until identities are revealed at a special breakfast on March 29. Adult, youth and child participants will choose a mystery nickname, fill out the questionnaire and decorate a mailbag. Pairs will exchange clues each Sunday from March 8-29.  Stop by the RE Table during Coffee Hour for more information and to sign up.  Or contact Matt Hetrick, our wonderful Mystery Buddy coordinator at Matthewjhetrick@gmail.com, or Interim DRE Karen Lee Scrivo at interimdre@firstunitarian.net for more information.  Hope you'll be part of this wonderful annual event.
Volunteers Needed!

Beacon

We’re in need of an additional layout person (or two!) for the monthly Beacon!! You would be responsible for laying out the newsletter once every 3-4 months.  If you’re fairly comfortable in Microsoft Word, then you’d easily be able to use Microsoft Publisher. A newsletter template and friendly training will be provided. You receive edited articles, slap them in the template, and forward the entire document to the proofreaders before sending it off to the office.

If you'd like to know more about volunteering for the Beacon, please contact Gwyn Degner, gadegner@hotmail.com, or Janet Campbell, campbelladdress@yahoo.com.

Office

We are looking for a volunteer to help assemble the Order of Service every Friday afternoon. You would be responsible for folding, cutting inserts and stuffing the Order every Friday from roughly 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. We are also looking for volunteers who could be available for a variety of other tasks, such as office help, event help, etc. If you are interested in helping out the church office with any of these tasks, please contact Aubrey at office@firstunitarian.net
SAVE THE DATE MARCH 21 for Interim Religious Education Startup

All are invited to this important discussion facilitated by the Rev. David Pyle, Joseph Priestley District of the UUA Executive. This is a chance to look at First Unitarian’s religious education history and talk about the RE goals and priorities during this interim period. The Startup is expected to run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will be preceded by brunch.  Hope you'll be able to join us for this important discussion. For more information or to RSVP, contact Interim DRE Karen at interimdre@firstunitarian.net.
Budget Requests Due!

The Treasurer is requesting that all committees and groups get their budget request for the 2015-2016 fiscal church years to the church office and the Treasurer (both) no later than close of business March 13, 2015.  That is the cutoff date for all budget requests.  Request arriving after that date will only be considered if there is an excess in the projected income, which is highly unlikely.

-D. Doreion Colter, Treasurer
Are You Going to the Healthy Congregations Workshops?

The deadline for Building Healthy Congregations is fast approaching. If you are interested in attending this transformative series of workshops (March 14, March 28, April 18 and May 16 at Towson UU Church), contact Laura Laing (llaing@comcast.net) or Molly Ruhlman (molly.ruhlman@gmail.com) right away. Visit the Joseph Priestly District website and the UUA site for details. And don't forget to donate to the Healthy Congregations scholarship fund (to help defray the costs for those who can't afford to attend). Contact Laura or Molly for those details.
KNITTING NEEDED FOR PARADE

Please deposit your knitted scarves and other craft items for the St. Patrick Parade church fundraiser in the plastic tub located in Pratt Hall. We’ll also happily sell your homemade baked goods during the March 15 parade on Charles Street. Linnea Anderson and Judy Alexander are coordinating.

Survey of Interest: First Unitarian Coffee House

In the past few months First Unitarian Church has opened its doors for a series of evening events to encourage community building and fellowship.  The Ad-Hoc Coffee House Committee has been working feverishly to make these events a more permanent and regular part of our church’s life.

In order to make this vision a reality, we need you.  What types of events would entice you to enter our Parish Hall?  Would you like to volunteer to help us with our efforts?  Please take a moment to fill out our survey here.

Thank you!
Our Change for Change partner for March & April

Our Change for Change partner for March and April is Interfaith Power & Light (D.C., MD.NoVA) which works with congregations of all faiths to save energy, go green and respond to climate change.  First Unitarian is a member and we have IPL light switch reminders posted in our church.  Recent advocacy work includes support of offshore wind legislation in Maryland and speaking out against the Cove Point export facility.   More information is available during Fellowship Hour at the Social Action Clearinghouse (SAC) table.
