Program Without Walls enters its 21st year

This winter parents and caregivers have been working with artist Virginia Tran in our Program Without Walls that travels to locations throughout the former City of York. Our most recent session, entitled “Creative Expressions”,  landed at the Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Centre on Jane St. Participants have been exploring their artistic abilities through a variety of media including including painting, block printing, weaving and lantern-making.  The program gives parents and caregivers a much-needed break from the day-to-day stresses of parenting young children while their children take part in their own artistic activities with caregivers. Program Without Walls' longevity is a testament to its relevancy.

The program is delivered in partnership with the Macauley Child Development Centre and is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Upcoming sessions include:

March: Yoga for Women @ Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services
March/April: Stressbusters Yoga
@ Oakwood Library

Social Venture Partners (SVP) are a groundbreaking group of venture philanthropists who help progressive and innovative charities increase their ability to create positive change in Toronto. Each year, they select one charity to collaborate with over the course of a 3-year period. Art Starts is incredibly honored to have been chosen as their 2014 investee! Starting last fall we began working closely with SVP project teams. They are providing strategic capacity-building expertise accompanied by financial supports to deepen our impact as an organization. We are thrilled to be working with them and look forward to what we can accomplish together in the coming years!
Art Starts joins Arts Day at City Hall

Art Starts joined several other Toronto arts organizations for the 5th Annual Arts Day at City Hall this past February 12th. Throughout the day, arts champions including our own Liz Forsberg met with city councillors to discuss the role the arts play in Toronto and made the case for continued and growing support for culture within the city. Our new Marketing and Events Coordinator, Julian Carvajal, donned a beautiful jacket made by our Sew What?! grads and set up an Art Starts table at the cultural expo. We had so much fun communicating and sharing the impact of community-engaged arts in Toronto neighbourhoods. Check out our photo album!
