Milestones: Harvir Kaur and the
Central Brooklyn Food Coop
Propelled by the dedication and efforts of a Central Brooklyn collective of residents, the Central Brooklyn Food Co-op (CBFC) has gone from idea to nascent institution over the past 18 months. And throughout, Harvir Kaur, BMC's Food Sovereignty Organizer, worked behind the scenes to organize this work.
This month, Harvir is leaving her part-time position at BMC to serve as full-time Community Manager at Brand Workers, an organization bringing local food production workers together for good jobs and a sustainable food system throughout New York City. Join us in sending her off with love and best wishes.
As an organizer committed to the self-sustainability of the Co-op, Harvir has left the Co-op leadership empowered and in a position to flourish.
CBFC formed a steering committee that will manage the food co-op organizing process until the CBFC elects an official board of directors and hires a general manager. Please email any questions, concerns, or thoughts to cbfc@brooklynmovementcenter.org.

Paying for the Revolution

On February 23rd, board members Braeden Lentz and Janel Quarless led BMC in organizing an intimate gathering of donors who support BMC at the $250 or more level. Big shouts to Braeden, Janel and the entire BMC board for raising more than $5,000, and to BMC’s new member, Sheena Brown, for opening up her home and wallet for the event.
