A cross-departmental initiative inspired by the National Civil War Project commemorating this year’s 150 th anniversary of the war’s conclusion.
Through Friday, March 20: “ What They Wrote, What They Saved: The Personal Civil War,” an exhibition featuring diaries, letters, and firsthand accounts from four years of Civil War that offer intimate glimpses into the lives of men and women affected by the strife. Schlesinger Library, 10 Garden St., Radcliffe Yard; Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm. Presented by Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.

Thursday, March 12, 6 PM: Crossing: A Lecture/Recital, featuring Matthew Aucoin ’12, composer of Crossing, a new opera about the Civil War inspired by the journals and poetry of Walt Whitman, premiering in May presented by the American Repertory Theater. Davone Tines '09, a member of the opera’s cast, will perform selections from the score. Paine Hall, Music Building, 1 Oxford St. An Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Seminar on Violence and Non-Violence presented by the Mahindra Humanities Center.
