March 2nd Meeting
Join us on March 2nd at 7:00 to hear from Suzanne Myers Otto with her talk "Art to Wear with Glitz and Flair". I'm really excited about this meeting and I hope you are too!
Before the meeting – stop at our Local Quilt Shop (LQS) – Village Creek Quilt Shop! Patti opens specially from 3:30 to 6:30pm on the first Monday of each month before the Guild Meetings. 123 S. Main Street, Lodi, WI.
Elections Coming Soon
It’s that time of year again – time to elect new members to the Lodi Valley Quilt Guild Board. This year we have a lot of openings…pretty much every position needs to be filled. Please take a moment to read through the LVQG Bylaws, http://lvqg.org/media/5149d1d17488371fffff9 eb2ffffe417.pdf to learn more about what each job position entails. If you think you would enjoy and thrive in a position or know someone who would, please remember to make your nominations known at the March meeting. Official nominations will be made at the April meeting and elections will occur at the May meeting.
This year, the following positions are up for election. President, Vice President, Secretary and Membership are one-year terms, but an individual may serve two terms. Current officers are eligible to serve a second term.
The rest are committee chairs with no term limits.
Treasurer (Jamie Rowe) and Program Chair (Irene Stoll) are not up for election this year as they are in the
middle of a two-year term.
If you are interested in running for one of these positions in 2016 a great option to consider is job shadowing. A form will be handed out at the February meeting for you to look over and consider ways you can get involved and help keep the Lodi Valley Quilt Guild the strong guild that it is.
Hearts and Hands
Hearts and Hands will be meeting on the Friday, March 6th at the Lodi Methodist Church. We will meet from 9:00am to noon. Please bring your machine if you are able. There is always hand work if you do not bring your machine.
See you at Hearts and Hands

BLOCKS DUE AT LVQG MEETING MARCH 2, 2015!
QUESTIONS? Anne Frihart, 608-644-9294; 608-512-3620 (cell); afrihart@wildblue.net
Our challenge is a little bit different this year, instead of giving out fabric we are challenging everyone to modernize the “Log Cabin Block”.
The Lodi AG fair is celebrating 150 years and the “Log Cabin Block” was a very popular block 150 years ago, so we are challenging everyone to put on their thinking caps and modernize this age old block into a beautiful quilt, jacket or sewn piece.
You can change the block anyway (put your own spin on it) and use any fabric just keep it to the size no bigger than 36” square or a total of 144 inches outside measurement.
[adding the (4) outside sides does not go over 144” total] Same as last year.
Completed quilts/quilted items are due at the April meeting. They will be displayed at Quilt Academy to be voted on by attendees with prizes for the winners.
Rotary cutters ready . . . sewing machines oiled . . . .GO!
Quilt Academy will be on April 25th, 2015 at the Lodi High School. It is a $35 fee for LVQG members. There are still just a couple spots left! Don't delay if you want to sign up! Find the brochure HERE if you've misplaced your copy.
Please bring in a few quilt store quality fat quarters, patterns, and/or books to be used for door prizes at the academy. It is appreciated if you donate something you'd be happy to receive yourself.
Events at the Lodi Public Library!
• Caring for Your Treasures - we'll have quilts and a lecture from the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts in Cedarburg at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, April 21 at Lodi Public Library. Learn how they preserve and care for the museum's collection and get tips and tricks for taking care of your own treasures.
• We have locked in Wednesday, July 8 for our program with New York Times bestselling novelist Marie Bostwick. She will be speaking at Lodi Public Library (I don't know what time yet). Plan to drop off your fair entries that afternoon, hear Marie speak in the evening, then maybe swing back to the fair for dessert afterward!
The Value of a Quilt Project
Remember Trish Frankland’s presentation this spring— We’re $ew Worth It? In an effort to help the guild educate the community on the artistic and monetary worth of quilting, Trish is chairing a committee to make a quilt and create educational materials. Contact Trish at 235-4646 or trish.frankland@gmail.com to join the committee.
Quilts of Valor
LVQG is participating in the Quilts of Valor project. Local QOV groups are planning to present 100 quilts to veterans next August when the Moving Wall, ½ scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial comes to Madison. The guild needs donations of fabric (expecially red, white and blue) and willing hands to cut and piece quilt tops. Contact Nina Kurt at 849-4807 or 99NinaK@gmail.com if you have donations or would like to be part of the project.
The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. For more on Quilts of Valor, go to www.qovf.org.
