12th Annual AFA & AFROTC Aztec "Shoot Out" Scholarship Golf Tournament

Registration is now open on our website for our 12th Annual Golf Tournament to benefit Scholarships supporting the young men and women cadets of Detachment 75 of the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Program (AFROTC) at San Diego State University.

This year's tournament is at the Twin Oaks Golf Course, San Marcos on April 24, 2015.  Tee time is 1:15pm with registration at 11:15am to allow time for pre-tournament warmup and some special events.

Every golf course designer wants to challenge golfers to hit the right shot without punishing them for missing a shot or two. At Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos, California, Ted Robinson, course architect, has created a golf course that finds this balance.

The fairways at Twin Oaks are scenic and can reward golfers’ accuracy off the tee.  The greens are quick and true;  read your putt correctly and your ball will find the hole.

These tournaments have generated thousands of dollars to benefit the scholoarship program for local cadets at San Diego State's Detachment 75.

Thanks again go out to our generous sponsors who help make this Air Force Association Chapter 118 tournament a success with special appreciation to our Presenting Sponsor, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems.

CyberPatriot VII Update:

As you may remember, 54 teams from San Diego registered for the competition.  They represented 24 different high schools, middle schools, organization, and private schools.  Most teams were single entries; however, Westview High School entered 10 teams split between their NJROTC program and the Open Division.

This year only 1 team from San Diego scored high enough to make it to the National Finals in Washington, D.C.  They are the Naval Sea Cadet Corps Fort Fisher Division team.  This is their 3rd year in the competition, and their 3rd year in making it to the final.  We wish them the best of luck!  Also, we will invite them to come to a meeting to tell us about their experiences.

Community Partner Update:

Last year was AFA’s Year of the Community Partner (CP) where each chapter was to work hard to sign up new CPs.

Chapter 118 only added one new CP last year.  However, this year we are doing great!  At our March 26th General Membership Meeting, we will welcome 4 new CPs and present renewal medallions to 2 others.

Our new Community Partners are:  Jeff Gordon from Landtech Landscaping, Colonel (Ret) Marty Wojtysiak from WojTek Associates, Captain Leanne Babcock from BobCat Fitness, and Major General (Ret) Mark Graper from Cubic Corporation.
