Dean's Message

Welcome to UNSW Built Environment Alumni Newsletter series. With 2015 underway, I take this opportunity to congratulate all our alumni and students who have received awards in recognition of their outstanding work and contributions to the built environment professions.

In addition to my prior announcement about the Seidler Chair in The Practice of Architecture, I am delighted to also announce the creation of the endowed UNSW Judith Neilson Chair in Architecture and an accompanying lecture to be delivered annually, so generously enabled by philanthropist Judith Neilson. UNSW Built Environment is honoured to be entrusted by Judith Neilson as the custodian of her vision to improve the lives of people through new knowledge in architecture and the education of future generations of architects.

The 2015 Utzon Lecture Series is already underway and the program of this year’s esteemed speakers is available online. In September LuminoCity will be held and alumni will be showcasing their work alongside that of current students. An alumni reunion for our graduates is planned as part of the LuminoCity celebrations and I look forward to seeing many of you at these and many other events throughout the year.

A special thanks to those alumni who got in touch when we put the call out in our last edition to assist current students by offering career advice, mentoring opportunities and internships. We are still in the early stages of getting a program underway and will keep you updated on its progress throughout the year.

I invite you to stay in touch and network with fellow alumni and built environment professionals by joining our Linkedin group UNSW Built Environment. To keep up to date with UNSW Built Environment news, visit www.be.unsw.edu.au/news

Best regards,

UNSW Industrial Design graduates Alfred Boyadgis and Julian Chow (BIndDes ’13) and Engineering graduate Georges Constantinos (BSci Comp Sci ’12) came up with the idea after a trip to the snow left them fumbling with frozen hands to operate their phones and cameras. Read the full story
