National Parks Day Weekend registrations close soon
Join with NPAQ, and our hosts, the Green Mountains Natural History Association (GMNHA), as we celebrate National Parks Day and the milestone event of the 100th anniversary of the Gazettal of Lamington National Park. There will be buffet dinner on Friday and Saturday night, and several walks have been organised for Saturday 28 March. Registrations will close Wednesday 18th March. [read more]
Springbrook National Park
The $780,000 bridge over Little Nerang Creek at the base of Purling Brook Falls has been completed and is open to the public. This bridge and an additional 160m of walking trail will make the track safer and less prone to land-slips.
Warro National Park
NPAQ continues to receive reports of cattle on Warro National Park (just south of Miriam Vale) and has learned that there is a grazing lease over 44% of the Park until 2029! Warro was gazetted in 2006 as part of the South East Queensland Forests Agreement (SEQFA) introduced in 1999. The purpose of the SEQFA was to "develop a world-class conservation reserve system, ensure ecologically sustainable management of forests and maintain a competitive and efficient timber industry". Warro is part of the Bulburin management area - one of the most biologically diverse protected areas in the Southeast Queensland bioregion with over 300 animal species and 550 plant species listed. Naree Budjong Djara (North Stradbroke Island) National Park
Paul Donatiu, Des Boyland (Wildlife Preservation Society of Qld) and Jan Aldenhoven (wildlife biologist) are meeting with Minister Miles on Wednesday 18th March to discuss the future of the Island, and the protection and expansion of national park on North Stradbroke.

Volunteer to help NPAQs events and programs
At the moment, we are specifically looking for people who can:
- Make a 45min presentation at the NPAQ social and topics of interest evening on 21 October about a recent adventure you had. Ideally, you will have stories about experiences in national parks or have many beautiful travel photos to share!
- Help to enter information into NPAQs database. This is a task for somebody who enjoys typing, has attention for detail, and can help one day per week
- Serve supper at the Social and Topic of Interest Evenings as well as Members Meetings on 20 May, 17 June, 15 July, 19 August, and 18 November.
- Contribute photos to our new magazine, Protected. This is a great way to promote your work if you are a budding photographer. Images must be 300dpi minimum.
