Public to see CQC ratings displayed across care services

People and their families who use care services will soon be able to make more informed choices about their care by seeing first-hand if the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has judged them as Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement or Inadequate.

New rules mean health and care providers will have to make arrangements to prominently display their CQC rating from 1 April 2015.

CQC’s final guidance for care providers on how to display their ratings is available to view here

Dimensions: Supporting people with Learning Disabilities to Love their Vote

Many people we support told us that they didn’t understand what voting means and how politics affects them. Dimensions set out to tackle this fundamental disengagement with the democratic process at a number of levels. This is what we have been doing:

Love Your Vote workshops, run with the Parliamentary Outreach service, explain how the country is run. By May over 150 accessible workshops will have been held reaching around 2000 people with a learning disability, plus their support workers and families.
Ask Your Question is a set of inclusive, Question Time-style events taking place around the country. People with learning disabilities are invited to ask MPs, peers and other experts about key issues, overcoming barriers to participation using numerous tools such as graphic facilitators.
On National Voter Registration Day, we encouraged registration using an easy online mechanism and also opened up our offices across the country to support people with a learning disability to register in person. An easy read registration form was used by other groups including at least one local authority.
Improved MP engagement is essential. To support this we have made numerous recommendations to the Voter Engagement Inquiry and spoken at relevant APPGs.
Have we had an impact? Time will tell, but we are proud of our work to raise the democratic voice of all people with learning disabilities.
