Facilitated Group Support

Registration for our Spring 2015 programs is now open!

We are offering 3 programs this session; two groups for Parents and Loved Ones and one for Those Directly Affected by an Eating Disorder. Our programs fill extremely quickly and we generally have lengthy waiting lists. Register early!

Support Groups for Parents and Loved Ones
This is a support group for parents and loved ones of those directly affected by an eating disorder, wanting support to help deal with the challenges of loving someone with an eating disorder, to share successes, to offer insights, and to find and inspire hope. This group provides a supportive and safe environment to facilitate discussion and encourage the sharing of solutions and strategies to help support a loved one with an eating disorder. Both sessions are located at WICSOE offices, located on the west end of the Millcreek Bridge above the Mill Creek Cafe. The cost is $60/participant and due the first day of the program (cash or cheque). Fees may be waived in cases of financial hardship.

Funding to provide support groups is provided by Alberta Health

Exciting news!

We have been successful in our application to the provincial government for bridge funding to hire an executive director. The funding will cover the first four months of the contract and then EDSNA will need to find other revenue streams to continue the position. This is a tremendous help as the workload has far exceeded a full-time job! The ED will hired by the board in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Eating Disorder Awareness Week 2015 (EDAW)

The first ever Edmonton Eating Disorder Awareness Week was a fantastic success. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, participated, volunteered, promoted and shared. We were thrilled with the media coverage and the many connections made. Canadian Mental Health Association-Edmonton Region is eager to partner with us again for EDAW 2016 and we have already started some preliminary planning. If anyone would like to join the committee or contribute to next year's success, please let us know.

We welcome your feedback, questions & suggestions. Contact suehuff66@gmail.com to let us know how we can improve EDSNA to better meet your needs.

Future Events
We are hoping to start a drop-in group and a one-day workshop for male carers (boyfriends, spouses, fathers).  If you are interested, please complete our contact form indicating your interest here.

EDSNA is very proud to announce the release of our own Sue Huff's

Book of Hope: Stories of love, courage and recovery from families who have battled eating disorders.

Available on Amazon

This book is a powerful collection of stories, told from the perspective of both the individual with the eating disorder and the parent(s) who walked the path of recovery with them. As well, Sue weaves her own family’s story of recovery, with its many twists and turns. Bravely honest and compelling, Book of Hope provides a lighthouse for families facing an eating disorder and keen insight for any doctor, teacher, coach, friend or loved one who wants to understand eating disorders and provide support.

Sue is our vice president and works tirelessly to advance EDSNA through out our province.
