This coming Sunday 15 March, we plan another event in the beautiful Surrey Copse in Shillinglee (link to map in red above). For those of you who have not visited before, this is one of the last opportunities to join a coppice activity before Spring and warmer weather heralds wild flowers, bud-burst and nesting birds. We like to complete the coppice work before the equinox to avoid adverse impacts on the natural environment. Click for Weather updates
Come along and gather or make useful things for the garden – bean poles, plant stakes, pea-sticks, fence posts, plant labels, and marker-pegs. All free to collect. (A small £5 donation per family is appreciated for the woodland owner and to pay for refreshments, fuel and insurance... and keep the scheme going!)
We will be cutting hazel and splitting sweet chestnut using some of the tools purchased with the grant from Surrey CC member Nikki Barton. Please remember to bring gloves, & wear suitable footwear.
Dogs and children welcome!
Please let us know how many people – so refreshments can be brought along for everyone.
Save the Date Sunday 3 May at Fowlshatch Copse – Join us to listen to the woodland dawn chorus – described as the best on the planet by wildlife experts and ornithologists. Bring something to share for our ‘Pot-Luck breakfast’. More details to follow, but be prepared for an early start... for the best experience, you should plan to arrive quietly by 5am! Thank goodness it is a Bank Holiday weekend, with plenty of time to recover!
Looking forward to seeing you in the woods soon,
Jane Devlin (on behalf of Transition Haslemere & Chiddgreen)
