Morning of Mindfulness

at Being Peace of Ojai

Morning of Mindfulness
Saturday, March 14, 9:00am-11:30am

True Happiness
Aware of the suffering caused by exploitation, social injustice, stealing, and oppression, I am committed to practicing generosity in my thinking, speaking, and acting. I am determined not to steal and not to possess anything that should belong to others; and I will share my time, energy, and material resources with those who are in need. I will practice looking deeply to see that the happiness and suffering of others are not separate from my own happiness and suffering; that true happiness is not possible without understanding and compassion; and that running after wealth, fame, power and sensual pleasures can bring much suffering and despair. I am aware that happiness depends on my mental attitude and not on external conditions, and that I can live happily in the present moment simply by remembering that I already have more than enough conditions to be happy. I am committed to practicing Right Livelihood so that I can help reduce the suffering of living beings on Earth and reverse the process of global warming.

The Second Mindfulness Training of the Five Mindfulness Trainings created by Thich Nhat Hanh is an opportunity to look deeply into how we engage with the world around us, especially as it relates to suffering and despair. We can learn to take care of ourselves, those around us, and experience true happiness. On Saturday, Kenley will lead our practice and use this training as the basis for the teaching.

09:45am Outdoor Walking Meditation

Important Announcement

SANGHA RETREAT
Our monthly sangha has been practicing together for 6-7 years and the weekly sangha is just over a year old. Leslie and Kenley feel that our community is growing, stable, and happy. They would like to help deepen and strengthen our sangha by inviting you to a weekend retreat at Deer Park Monastery. The dates will be April 24 - 26 in Escondido, California. If you are interested in participating, please email Leslie Davis and she will provide information on registration.

Mindful Self-Compassion

Our friend Gael Belden, who has been a co-facilitator for our sangha in Ojai, will be co-leading a Mindful Self-Compassion Training in Santa Barbara starting on March 14. This is an 8-week course in self discovery and self transformation. To learn more, download the flyer or call Gael at 805-798-0143.

Other Local Practice Opportunities

Mondays, 7:00pm-8:00pm Sitting and Walking Meditation
Fridays, 6:30am-7:30am Sitting Meditation

Please note, that all Being Peace of Ojai activities take place at 1579 Grand Ave (between Gridley and Orange) - there is a sign on the road. You will find plenty of parking when you come up the driveway through the orange groves and then just look for the entrance at the south end of the building (which is the end closest to Grand).

Being Peace of Ojai is facilitated by Chân Niệm Há»· (Kenley Neufeld), a Dharma Teacher in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. Dharma Teachers are members of the Core Community of the Order of Interbeing who have been selected as teachers based on their stability in the practice and ability to lead a happy life.
