Massive Concrete Dolphin Removed from Port of Houston Ship Channel

Underwater core drilling and wire sawing used

A ship collided with a concrete dolphin in the Port Of Houston, and ATI operators were a crucial part of the team to get it removed. Holes were core drilled and then expanded with wire sawing to allow a cable to be run through so it could be lifted out. More details, pictures, and video on the web site...

 

ATI Earns Second ABC Eagle Award

GT "Mickey" Leland Federal Building concrete panel removal

"Aggregate Technologies safely removed 340 precast panels weighing more than 2,000 pounds each from a fully operational federal office located on a busy city block by working at night and using two specially designed cranes mounted atop the 22-story building." read the official program. The award was given at the 25th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards Gala held on March 5, 2015, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Pictured below is Ben Ard, ATI project supervisor, and Nabil Mimouni, engineer, receiving the award. Details about the project are on the web site. This ABC Eagle award will join the previous award earned by ATI in 2012 for the M.D. Anderson Alkek Expansion project.

Cutting Steel Piles

Cutting steel piles is different than cutting concrete piles. Diamond blades are generally made to cut concrete, brick, block or asphalt. Carbide tipped blades are used for cutting steel, which creates the challenge of finding a blade that cuts both steel and concrete efficiently, while still having a reasonable blade life.
