We are proud to announce that Xela AID has been named the official sponsor of the La Verne FRESH Old Town Certified Farmers Market. The Grand Opening for the Farmers Market is slated for 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015, with a ribbon cutting event at 10 a.m.
The market is expected to attract a wide variety of comers from La Verne and nearby communities, and over time, to welcome regular attendees at a time they may not have otherwise have visited.
"We intend to make La Verne FRESH an exceptional Certified farmers market that residents, business owners, local chefs, University of La Verne students and others in the area will make a part of their weekly routine," says Market Manager Oscar De León.
"Xela AID is delighted to be able to partner with the City of La Verne, La Verne Business Improvement District, and Market Manager Oscar de León to create this very special market that will benefit both residents and visitors of the area and the people that Xela AID serves," says Leslie Baer Dinkel, Xela AID's Executive Director.
We look forward to seeing some of you at the Grand Opening event on April 18, 2015 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. To sign up for e-mail updates about the market and valuable coupons, click HERE.

Ferocious Wind Storm Hits San Martín Chiquito
|
|
A massive wind storm struck San Martín Chiquito early last week leaving many homes severely damaged.
"This is unlike any wind storm we've seen before. Roofs have been torn, trees have been flattened, and many of our past construction projects have been damaged," says Luis de León, Xela AID's Director in Guatemala.
Two of the homes constructed by previous Xela AID volunteer groups for families in extreme poverty have suffered damage, specifically to their roofs (pictured).
"While most materials have been salvaged, the estimated cost for repairs is about $2,000. We plan to make repairs to these homes on our upcoming trip in March if possible," says Xela AID's CFO and Construction Manager, Mel Dinkel.
For those wishing to help make the repairs possible, visit our online donation page and select a donation amount under the Emergency Fund Donation line. Or, you can mail us a check directly to: Xela AID, 111 W. Ocean Blvd. 4th Floor, Long Beach, CA 90802. Thank you for your support for these families.
