Youth with a Mission San Diego/Baja

Pepe busy at work with Homes of Hope!

Since our last newsletter we've jumped into our ministry roles and are coming out of the transition phase. We're here to tell you, transition can be really hard sometimes. Building new relationships can be exhausting, figuring out the specific role, finding new care providers, figuring out a new culture, etc. We still have a lot to learn but now we feel like we're doing so much better than 2 months ago! We feel so much more a part of the YWAM community now.

Pepe's responsibilities include being a part of the family selection team. He helps interview applicants and then visits their homes to make sure they qualify (there are several requirements such as having the title to their piece of land, be living on it, receive below a certain income, etc.). He then helps make family profiles and film interviews to send to the teams that are coming. Most if not all weekends that teams come to build, Pepe is on the building schedule and will sometimes serve as a host, a translator or one of the builders. The picture above is him putting the roof together on one of the homes. He's kind of a renaissance man in that he does a little bit of everything:)

My responsibilities besides being a mom and wife involve helping coordinate a big event coming up in May. It will be the 25th anniversary of Homes of Hope so there will be 25 teams coming down to build 25 homes in 1 1/2 days! It's going to be crazy but pretty amazing...:) So I'm helping define job descriptions, facilitating communication and details and will be in communication with the individuals that are coming for the event. I'm also in training to serve as team contact and answer any questions that teams have that are coming in to build.

We believe that serving in these positions is giving us some great experience for our future in Tecate! We're feeling very good where we're at, with the constant reminder to be faithful in the little, and to be intentional with keeping our family healthy.
Pepe had the privilege of helping build for the Angel Sanchez Family in February.
Ramon and Maria have been married for 11 years and have 4 children. 2 years ago they had the opportunity to buy some land through credit.

They both work packaging vegetables and earn on average about $60 a week per person. Because they can't afford childcare, Maria will work from the early morning until 2 and then her husband goes out to work at 4 until later at night.

They had been living on their property for 2 years in a makeshift house they put together with plastic, tarps and any wood beams or scraps they could find. There was no floor and water would come flooding in when it rained.

Ramon is a hard worker and was involved all weekend helping put together the house. They were so full of gratitude and thanked the team profusely for giving so that they could receive that house.

It's really cool to be a part of a ministry that is changing lives and we know that God is going to continue blessing this ministry and the teams that sacrifice so much to come and bless this beautiful country!
I couldn't help but add several pics of Camila... She's such a joy and has really warmed up to the other kids on base which is an answer to prayer. She's very affectionate and showers us with kisses declaring "I yuv you" all the time:) Her vocabulary has really exploded and it makes it much easier to understand what she wants and needs.

Pepe and I are doing great, we just recently celebrated our 3rd anniversary!? How does time go by so fast? :) Unfortunately I don't have any pictures (we were too distracted with how attractive each was ;)) but we got all dolled up and Pepe took me out to a lovely dinner as we talked about how good God has been to us over the past 3 years and our many adventures. We can't help but get excited about where God is taking us in the future!

Thank you guys so much for believing in our family and believing in our calling. We couldn't do what we do without you guys and we know your prayers and support have made this process so much smoother!
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do,
do it all for the glory of God.
