Dear <<First Name>>,

Things have started really well here in Oslo! We really have hit the ground running.

We started early; team prayer and worship at 8am. By 9:30am we were out in the main square at the university. We were handing out free waffles and asking the question of the day, 'Is life an accident?'

The question started many great conversations and we were able to invite students and other passers by to the lunch time talk.
Engaging in conversations - aided by free waffles - in the university square
At lunch time a Norwegian priest and a Norwegian atheist sat down in conversation which by all accounts went well.

We kept the waffles and conversation flowing outside until 3:15pm before heading back to the Chrisian Union house for dinner and preparation for the evening meeting.
By the end of the day nearly 200 people had engaged the question on the board.

For some, life is determined - biology and physics - and we are here by chance, with no ultimate higher purpose.

Others see that whilst there is randomness in the world, life without higher meaning is unfulfilling.

The conversations were stimulating and some lasted for a couple of hours!
In the evening Simon shared on the subject 'Why Bother?' - why should we even seek to ask the big questions of life? The talk was well-followed by the Norwegian crowd, who all seem to speak English to a very high quality.

The talk finished and gave way to a Q&A time in which Simon was assisted well by Anna and Madeline.

Prayer Points

  • That the conversations we started today would grow and develop tomorrow and the days after
  • That those whose curiosity was piqued today what engage with the events in the rest of the week
  • For good rest and health (Simon and I managed 3 hours last night and colds are developing)
  • For continued high levels of energy and enthuasim (that made today go really well, despite little sleep!)

If you want to follow along by day, we're tweeting with the hashtag #skepsisuka. Thank you for your prayers!

Onwards and Upwards,

Jonathan
