Depraved and detached sex, bourgeois genre painting’s influence on Danish silent movies, a literary typology of metafiction adapted to filmanalysis and the internationalisation of Danish cinema, exemplified by Susanne Bier’s films are on the Kosmorama agenda in this issue.
 
Sex as a negative, demonizing force that poisons the characters’ souls is a recurrent theme of Lars von Trier’s films. In his article on Nymphomaniac Peter Schepelern analyses Trier’s use of detached sex.

From the dark and haunting carnal excesses of Trier’s films we turn to the Rembrandtian light of late eighteenth century genre painting, a source of inspiration in early Danish silent movies, according to Vito Adriaensens’ analysis.
