Until April 26, 2015
EXHIBITION FOR KIDS: WHERE DOES THE SPIRIT LIVE?
Student Art Project: John Rennie High School
This project had the objective of sensitizing students to certain issues facing Native peoples in terms of rights and loss of identity. After discovering the artworks of two First Nations artists, Samuel Ojeda and Sonny Assu, students were invited to reflect upon their own identities and to represent them by painting a drum-shaped panel. The drum is very significant to all First Nations.
This project received financial support from the Friends of Stewart Hall.
Kids' Corner, Stewart Hall Cultural Centre. Free admission.
Until April 26, 2015
VERTIGO:
Karine Fréchette – Sandy Plotnikoff – Daniel Hutchinson – Ianick Raymond - Mike Pelletier – Anna Pantcheva - Mathieu Grenier
Curators: Manel Benchabane & Amanda Johnston
The Stewart Hall Art Gallery is proud to present Vertigo, an exhibition featuring seven artists, whose artworks are a result of extensive visual research. Art often relates to issues of perception, both physical and visual. When we direct our gaze towards the artwork, we seek to understand the new space we are confronted with. Obscured by feelings of comprehension and the lack thereof, once we are confronted with this discovery, our perception of the image becomes unsettled and precarious; from this arises the feeling of vertigo.
