Encountering Jesus: A Call to Deeper Discipleship
Join us in worship over the weeks of Lent as Rev. Troy Tatum presents a series of sermons entitled, “Encountering Jesus: A Call to Deeper Discipleship.”  Throughout Lent we will explore in worship the stories of those who met Jesus in scripture, and see how their encounters might teach us how to respond as we meet Jesus in our daily lives.  This would be a great time to invite a friend, neighbor, or co-worker to come with you to church.  Please make worship a priority for your faith journey this Lenten season as we encounter Jesus in story, song, and sermon each Sunday.

If you have missed any of Troy's sermons, audio CD's are available in the narthex, and all sermons are
posted online here.
Lent is a special time in the life of the Church, a time to come together collectively and ask “How is Jesus calling us to live? What is Jesus calling us to do? Where is Jesus calling us to go?” It is also an opportunity for each of us individually to search within for the ways we need to change. During this season many are looking for ways to draw closer to God. We’d like to invite you to join our Wednesday evening LIVE L.I.F.E. LIVE LENT series. We will begin gathering at 5:30 for dinner, have a brief time of communion each week and then move into small groups. Small groups will conclude at 6:45. We will meet  March 11, March 18, and March 25.
Notes for March 11 - cost of dinner $5.00 per person

COATS FOR CHRIST
Accepting donations now thru March 22!
In years past, Coats for Christ has served schoolchildren in our local community and children and adults in local shelters. We are currently accepting donations of new and gently used, practical coats.  We need:

·       Men’s coats (all sizes)
·       Women’s coats (all sizes)
·       Children’s coats (sizes 5/6, 7/8,10/12, 14/16)

Coats for Christ donations will run until March 22.  A table for collection will be placed in the Narthex just outside the entrance to the Sanctuary.  So as you clean out your closets and hit all the sales, don’t forget Coats for Christ!

BIBLE BUDDIES & COOK KIDS
EASTER SERVICE PROJECT
This year for Easter our children in Bible Buddies and Cool Kids are putting together Easter baskets for children in need this holiday.  If you have a child in this age range who would like to participate they should get an Easter basket, and fill it with (candy, toys, art supplies, stuffed animals, etc.) that someone their age and gender might like. Wrap it in plastic and tie it with ribbon.  Then bring their basket to church no later than Sunday, March 22.  On that same evening we will have someone judge the baskets and there will be a prize for the best girl basket and the best boy basket.  The baskets will go to "Hands On Birmingham" who will distribute them to homeless shelters and mother and children shelters throughout Birmingham.  Let's make this Easter a little more special for children in need this holiday!

CHURCH-WIDE GARAGE SALE
MARCH 27 - 30
WE ARE STILL ACCEPTING DONATIONS!

How can you help?  Clean out your closets!!!  Bring your used clothing, kitchen ware, household decor, garage tools, appliances, furniture, camping stuff, baby stuff, games, lamps, ETC to FCC ASAP and not later than March 22.   All proceeds from the sale of all your donated items will be returned to FCC for the Backpack Buddy Bag ministry.

24-HOUR PRAYER VIGIL
MAUNDY THURSDAY, APRIL 2 - FRIDAY, APRIL 3
Following our Maundy Thursday service on April 2, we will begin a 24 hour prayer vigil.  Please sign-up in the narthex if you would like to participate in this meaningful tradition.
EASTER HYDRANGEAS
Again this year we are going to have hydrangeas in the Sanctuary for Easter morning.  The hydrangeas are $22 per plant, and you are encouraged to purchase one in honor or in memory of a loved one.  Please note on your check, "For Easter Hydrangeas".  A sign-up sheet is in the narthex.

CROP HUNGER WALK
Sunday, April 19 at 2:30 p.m.
Mark your calendars and plan to join us for the 10th Annual Birmingham Crop Hunger Walk on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Caldwell Park - stepping off at 2:30 p.m.

After several rainy past events, we've moved the walk date a bit earlier and are looking forward to lots of sunshine and fun for our 10th Anniversary.

This 5K family walk event supports the local hunger fighting efforts of Greater Birmingham Ministries and the world hunger programs of Church World Service.

We will have walker registration forms and promotional materials available soon.  Please plan to support this event so we can reach our goal of $100,000.00 raised so far.  Thank you for your wonderful support of hungry families in Birmingham and around the world.

Pastor’s Blog

Writing has always been important to me, but like many, I often don't make or take the necessary time. So, I've taken on writing a blog as part of my Lenten discipline this year. My intent is to post something each week throughout Lent, hopefully creating some habits that extend beyond the season. Click here to check it out, feel free to share, and let me know if something you read stirs up any thoughts or questions.

Blessings.
Troy
