Our 2015 conference in scenic Newport, RI, will be here before you know it! The theme of this year’s conference is “Ocean State, Ocean Planet: Exploring Our World of Water” and there are five conference tracks: in the classroom, out of the classroom, next generation science standards (NGSS), today’s scientific research, and partnerships with industry and government. A wide variety of field trips are being offered, including this exciting opportunity to visit Block Island >
Award nominations are due April 1 and exhibitor information and online registration will be available soon! Keep an eye on the conference homepage >
We had a wonderful time at the National Science Teachers Association's annual conference in Chicago, where we caught up with many of our members and made lots of new connections! We hosted the Whale of a Tale Share-a-thon for teachers and several of our chapters hosted tables with fun activities and useful organizational information.
The Share-a-thon was followed by a full day of educational sessions, with many focusing on Great Lakes literacy, which showcased our GLEAMS chapter - the Great Lakes Educators of Aquatic and Marine Sciences. Read more about it and check out photos from the conference >
Our peer-reviewed journal has moved into the digital realm! Current: The Journal of Marine Education is a benefit of your membership and features lively, in-depth articles and activities relating to all aspects of the world of water.
Current NMEA members who are logged into our website can access the latest issue of Current, which was published at the close of last year, here >
Submission deadlines for upcoming issues of Current have been released for 2015. Get additional details on how you can submit a piece for publication here >
It's been a busy winter, full of fun updates and planning - members can always keep up with all that's happening in our What's New blog!
Several nominees for our 2015 NMEA Board have been named, but it's not too late to submit a nominee yourself - the deadline is April 17. Find out more on our blog! Also, check out this wonderful guest blog by Bethany Ricks, a 2014 Expanding Audiences scholarship recipient, get to know a fellow member, Meghan Marrero, who is on our board and chair of the Current Committee, and check out Massachusetts Marine Educators' new website!
We'd love to share your news and events too! Does your chapter have a great regional workshop coming up, or was a member just recognized for something really cool? Or do you have a striking photograph that would look good on our homepage? Drop us an email, or let us know on Facebook or Twitter, so we can help spread the news!
