Interview with Veteran Animator Steve Cunningham

In our 35th episode, there was so much Steve Cunningham goodness that we had to split it up in to two podcasts! With 20 years in the industry, he had some great insight and practical wisdom to share. Having worked in both 2D & CG animation, he's worked on such films as Anastasia, The Croods, Frozen, Kung Fu Panda 2, and most recently The Book of Life. Listen to part 1 of this interview and check back in early April for part 2.

Instructor Spotlight - Luke Randall

Luke has been with iAnimate shortly after we opened our doors. He is originally from Australia but now resides in Los Angeles, California where he works as a character animator at Dreamworks Animation. He got his start in TV series and game cinematics before moving into features where he has completed animation on Open Season 2, Shrek Forever After, Megamind, Puss in Boots, Turbo, Peabody & Sherman, as well as character development work on Dreamwork's Rocky and Bullwinkle short . Luke is currently teaching a class in our Feature Workshop 4: Close up facial acting & lip sync.

Watch Luke's current reel with some amazing facial acting & body mechanics.

New Instructor - Jason Shum

Jason is currently a Senior Animator at Ready at Dawn Studios and just finished work on The Order: 1886. He has 15 years of experience in the animation industry working on games, films and commercials. After graduating from Vancouver Film School, he got his foot in the door at Volition working on PS2 titles Summoner and Red Faction. He's been fortunate to have worked at Pandemic Studios, EA, and Blur Studio on games such as Mercenaries 1 and 2, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Medal of Honor, and Saboteur. His favorite part of the job is working in collaboration with designers and programmers to create animation that makes the player feel like they are in an interactive living world.

Modeling & Maya Intro Workshop

Our Modeling & Maya Introduction workshop is a great way to learn how to build unique and specific props and sets for your animation shots. It's also a great way to get familiar with Maya, particularly if you're new to animation and want to enroll in one of our animation workshops (i.e. Feature, Game, & Creature). We have some spots available for our Spring session starting April 6th.

Industry Crowdfunding - Movement & Form

iAnimate friend & talented 2D industry artist Samantha Youssef, has launched a KickStarter for her first book on figure drawing.

My syllabus stems from my studies at art academies around the world, my experience as a hand drawn feature animator, my directing experience with CG animators, and my training in classical ballet.  It's a method that applies to a wide range of artists from different backgrounds, CG & hand drawn animators, visual development artists, comic book artists, story artists, illustrators, character designers, sculptors, fine artists, art students and anyone who loves to draw.
