Help shorten spring fund drive by pledging early. It's your call!
No fooling.

Challenge 2015 - It's Your Call!

Aloha, it's that time again! On April 15th, we'll be launching another of our semi-annual fund drives -- Challenge 2015.

These on-air events still prove to be the most effective way to raise the funds we need to keep the station operating. Nevertheless, all of us at HPR (indeed, public radio brain trusts across the country) continue to look for ways to minimize these interruptions to your listening experience.

Our recent Early Bird Campaign was a hugely successful experiment toward this end. In just three days, with no "pledge breaks," we collected a record 921 gifts. And donations have continued to come in. As of this writing, the original $998,000 goal has been whittled down to
$779,000. To the nearly 1300 donors who have given thus far, many many thanks for your generosity and foresight.

HPR supporters demonstrated during this past fall’s fund drive that they truly value our service...and their time. We raised more last October than with any other drive in the history of the station -- and almost a QUARTER MILLION dollars were pledged in little more than ONE DAY of "overtime."

Let’s come together again to make Challenge 2015 as expeditious as possible. It’s your call (and you don’t need to wait till our volunteers are at the phones in two weeks)!
Then tune in starting April 15th to enjoy the many voices of our islands coming to Pledge Central to celebrate building community together.

It's All About Us

Did you know that
  • 175,000 individuals listen to HPR each week
  • 12,000 of them are station members
  • that means about 7% of listeners are supporting HPR's service for the entire community

We're also proud to announce that HPR has been recognized as one of the 2015 Best Places to Work in Hawaiʻi. The program is managed by Hawaii Business magazine and Best Companies Group. The award is based on a confidential survey of our employees and an extensive questionnaire about benefits and working conditions.

News Series from HPR Airs This Week

Did you know Honolulu county taxpayers were charged because not enough trash was sent to the H-Power waste-to-energy plant during fiscal year 2014?

HPR's News staff investigates this and more, including the lifespan and future of landfills, and planning and policy choices facing Hawaiʻi voters and government officials.

Follow "Trashing Paradise," a weeklong series about ʻōpala in the islands, airing on Morning Edition and All Things Considered starting March 30th. Audio reports and additional elements may be found at hpr2.org.

Sustaining Members' $-for-$ Match

With their regular monthly contributions, our Sustaining Members lowered the amount needing to be raised in Challenge 2015. Now they're looking for new Sustaining Members to join the team!

Sign up at the $10-a-month level (or more) and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Sustaining Member Challenge Fund. Rookie Sustaining Members get a signing bonus of a "Team HPR" 3/4-sleeve baseball t-shirt.

Call our Membership office during business hours (808) 955-8821 or pledge online by the official end of spring training, April 5th.

A new HPR-1 frequency on Kauaʻi

Listeners on Kauaʻiʻs north shore can now hear even more clearly their news magazines and classical music. The new HPR-1 frequency K269GD 101.7 is made possible by a translator we recently established on Crater Hill. Pictured above: HPR antennas, well hidden above Kīlauea (Kauaʻi).
