Spring is here and the wildflowers are in bloom! Here's a look at what's going on in your open space preserves.
Walk with a Doc

Daniels Nature Center Opens!

Spring weekends are here and you should be outdoors…as the living is easy, especially on the edge of Alpine Pond. Bring family and friends to visit any Saturday or Sunday beginning April 4 -- 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. You can enjoy displays about natural communities, view larger-than-life pond strata mobiles, take a pond prowl, and perhaps have an opportunity to study live aquatic organisms “borrowed” from Alpine Pond with guidance from a docent. These adventures and more await you!

April Adventures

This month join one of our FREE docent-led activities. The many hikes in April include:  a hike along the Bay Area Ridge Trail between Long Ridge and Skyline Ridge OSP; wildflowers under the fir trees at El Corte de Madera Creek OSP; a variety of natural communities at Windy Hill OSP; and a bouquet of wildflowers at Russian Ridge OSP.

Community Events

Earth Day is April 22, and we'll be out in the community celebrating at a variety of local events during weekends in April.  District volunteers and staff will be hosting tables with lots of information.  Stop by and visit us to learn more about the open space preserves near you!

Walk with a Doc

This series of walks for health is getting new users outdoors!  Last month the participants who joined doctors from the San Mateo Medical Association Community Service Foundation and Midpen volunteers included several walkers on their first hike EVER in an open space preserve!

Join us for our next walk on April 11 at Pulgas Ridge Open Space Preserve>>

Fat Tire Jamboree

Last month Midpen co-hosted the Fat Tire Jamboree with Silicon Valley Mountain Bikers (SVMB) at El Corte de Madera Creek OSP. Over 50 visitors stopped by the trailhead booths to learn more about the preserve and proper trail etiquette.  SVMB also led several organized rides, including an instructional class for beginners.  A special shout-out to the leaders and volunteers at SVMB for coordinating such a fun, educational, and productive event!
