Sustainable Neighbourhoods News

Celebrate Neighbour Day, Sunday 29 March
Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community, and encourages all of us to take the time to engage in small and local acts of neighbourliness to make our neighbourhood a safe, fun and friendly place to live.
You can put up your hand to show that you and your neighbours want to be a part of something bigger.
Find out more, register a Neighbour Day event, or share a neighbourly story.

The ethic of Neighbour Day compliments Sustainable Neighbourhoods so well, that the Alliance has just signed up as a 'Very Neighbourly Organisation'.

Come along and join this free community event, listen to their stories and pose your own questions.

Training for Sustainable Neighbourhood volunteers

We are developing a series of sessions to help you, and your group, get the skills you need to do your great projects.  So far we are planning some formal training sessions including:
  • Fundraising and grant writing
  • Aboriginal cultural awareness, and
  • Health and Safety for Sustainable Neighbourhood volunteers.
We'd also like to organise some more informal network gatherings - opportunities for you to meet Sustainable Neighbourhood volunteers from across the city:
  • Success stories - hear about a range of projects and what made them successful
  • Issues forum - an opportunity to discuss issues that are common to Sustainable Neighbourhood groups across the city (eg cycleways, litter, plastic bags)
Dates and details are to be confirmed.
At this stage it would be helpful to hear from you.
Would you be keen to attend these sessions?
What topics you would like to learn more about?

Please let us know.

Do you have a project or idea you think other Sustainable Neighbourhood volunteers around Lake Macquarie would be interested in? Email us at admin@sustainableneighbourhoods.org.au and we can include it in the next edition.
