Message from the Chairman

Dear friends,

As many of you prepare to sit with your families around the Seder table to celebrate Passover, the Festival of Freedom,  we know that you will take a moment to reflect on the huge challenges facing the Jewish people.

The young child asks at the Seder, "why is this night different from all other nights of the year?”  These words have a special meaning since the last year has been unlike others in recent decades. No one knows what lies ahead.

But we do know that never before has there been a greater need for the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission to be vigilant and on the frontlines, 365 days a year, fighting anti-Semitism and defending Israel from defamation and delegitimization.

With the alarming and unprecedented surge in anti-Semitism, and violent attacks against Jewish communities around the world, these are difficult and critical times, and our mission is now more important than ever.

In its 36th year, the ADC continues to vigorously stand up to the purveyors of hatred who are out in full force.

You can count on us to do the work that needs to be done. We will never stop defending the community and speaking out against those who wish to harm us.

Please help strengthen the ADC so we can create a better future for our children and grandchildren

Your support is crucial  to our success. We cannot continue the battle alone.

Wishing you and your family a joyous Pesach.

Dvir Abramovich

Multifaith Future Leaders Program

For the past seven years, the ADC has hosted the Multifaith Future Leaders Program.

This year we will be conducting a one day seminar for upcoming leaders of faith communities.

We would like you to nominate one or two young adults (aged 18-30) to participate in this exciting initiative.

They will undertake leadership training, group discussion and activities.

There is no charge for this and the day will include a catered lunch and dinner.

There will be an early evening activity and the day will conclude at 8pm.

The event will take place on Tuesday 21st July in Caulfield.

If you have suitable candidates ask them to apply through our website.

I hope that you will be able to take part in this fabulous event.

CLICK AGAINST HATE

In 2015 Click against Hate (CAH) was introduced into primary schools across Victoria.

The positive feedback has been overwhelming.

These young students are taught skills and given knowledge to build safe, respectful learning environments and gain effective strategies to address bias, name-calling and online bullying.  The students are taught prevention and how to take action when it happens to them or when they see it happening to others.  CAH empowers and equips students with the skills to identify and respond to hate they encounter online.  Students are taught how to report on websites that they regularly use such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

The program also equips students with the knowledge and tools to understand what information is credible and what should be classified as non-credible.  The program examines the varying manifestations of anti-Semitism, hatred, racism and bigotry and educates the participants so they are capable of dealing and tackling this ugly phenomenon.

This year alone, CAH has been presented to more than 1,000 students in Victoria

Feedback:
Altona Meadows Primary
Kristy Carland – Grade 6 teacher
The Click against Hate program was extremely beneficial for the children at AMPS. It encouraged our students to report negative images and behaviour on the internet and act in a positive way when using technology. They now have more knowledge about problems involved when using the internet and strategies to fix and avoid them including the pillow and hero methods. Students were focused and engaged and learnt a lot of new language to describe what they see and understand on social media, including stereotypes, cyber bullying, anti-Semitism, defamation and incitement. Thank you very much to your presenter for a wonderful session with the kids at AMPS!

Glen Huntly Primary School
Paul Hanna - Grade 6 Teacher
Today your educator attended Glen Huntly Primary School to speak with the year 6's about the Click against Hate program. He delivered a fantastic presentation which engaged the students. It is such a pleasure to have a presenter who is actually a first-rate educator too. We had a discussion after he left and they learnt some valuable lessons and words. The posters created have been displayed around the room and throughout the halls. We replayed the videos again in class which was great.
Overall, great information and videos. very enjoyable. This is such an important program and we thank the ADC for offering it to our students.
