I'm not "on a cleanse" and I haven't "gone Paleo", but I did read Dr. Rober Lustig's excellent book, Fat Chance, Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity, and Disease, and I'm on a sugar reset.  What lead to this?  Well, eating whatever I wanted for the last couple years, no restrictions.  The good:  I finally set myself free from over 30 years of on-and-off dieting.  The not so good:  up ten pounds and not feeling my best.

The science in Dr. Lustig's book openned my eyes to the damage I was potentially doing to my health by feeding in a near constant flow of simple carbs.  I decided to lay off the sugar and alcohol (wine - boo hoo!) for a couple weeks and assess.  Did I lose five pounds?  No.  Is that ok with me?  Yes.  Freedom from reckless eating has its own rewards - peace of mind.
