  Newsletter #1, March 2015

Next Meetup: April 6, 2015 at 535 Mission St., SF
Join us at Trulia headquarters for a presentation by vegan startup Lighter, who was recently profiled by The Boston Globe. Lighter's Tech Sorcerer Christine Dolendo will talk about their tech stack and discuss the technical challenges of providing a high quality, curated grocery delivery service to customers all over the country. You can learn more about Lighter at their Web site, and more about the event on our meetup page.
Hack Session: March 26, 2015 in Emeryville
If you were at our last meetup, you heard Katie Cantrell talk about the great work that FFAC does, including educating schools and companies about the universal benefits of plant-based food choices. Katie mentioned that it would be helpful to have a mobile-friendly survey application to gather feedback from audiences. Join us in Emeryville on March 26th for 3-4 hours to make that app!  We'll announce this event on our meetup page shortly. In the meantime, e-mail steve@sfvtech.org to get involved.
Vegan Iron Chef: March 19th at 2424 Mariposa St., SF
Four Chefs Enter, One Chef Leaves. The 3rd annual Vegan Iron Chef will be in San Francisco Thursday, March 19th, at Club Verdi (2424 Mariposa St.). Four chefs will compete in three rounds of fierce "handheld food" combat. Doors at 6:50, slugfest at 7:15.

In their words, "Just like the original hit TV Show Iron Chef we’ve veganized it and created our own local version; which has become a wildly popular, live event held annually in the Bay Area."

There are a variety of ticket options available through the Vegan Iron Chef event page, including live streaming for $10!
Join the A/V Team at AR Conference 2015 in DC
Last year a team of sfvtech members volunteered to support the National Animal Rights Conference 2014 in Los Angeles.  We provided invaluable A/V and IT support to the conference and its amazing speakers.  It was hard work but it was immensely gratifying.  Email steve@sfvtech.org if you're interested in helping us this year.  You should be a good Windows/Mac troubleshooter with projector and general A/V experience. Most expenses will be covered.
Check Out These Other Meetups
Some of our members organize great meetups that you should check out.  Diego organizes the The San Francisco Software of Things meetup, which "is focused on exposing our community to the fast moving world of IoT software and hardware. But we don't want to just hear about them, we want to try them!"

Alexis organizes Volunteerism With A Side of Vegan Food, "a group to bring together good people who are truly passionate about helping others and who enjoy vegan food."
