Selma 65
By Catherine Filloux
Starring Marietta Hedges
Directed by Eleanor Holdridge
2 Performances March 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. & 7 p.m.
HOROWITZ CENTER/Smith Theatre
Rep Stage, HCC Theatre Department, and Student Life present:
Civil Rights - Fifty Years Later

Performances are free (no tickets required) and open to the public and will be followed by a post-play discussion with playwright and actress.

Based on true events, the play explores the stories of white civil rights activist Viola Liuzzo and FBI informant Tommy Rowe. Rowe was among the Ku Klux Klan members who overtook and gunned down Liuzzo's Oldsmobile in March 1965. Liuzzo, who witnessed racial hatred firsthand as a young girl, was targeted by the Klan while she drove African-American freedom fighters to safety following the historic Selma Voting March.

Actor Marietta Hedges plays both roles.

Housing Assistance for Unitarian Member From Durango, Colorado
Hi!

I'm a physics undergrad living in Durango, Colorado and I've been trying to make it to a conference up in Baltimore that I recently found out about. The American Physical Society conference goes over a number of topics from theoretical physics (what I'm very interested in) to more practical applications such as nanotechnology used in medical science (which I may be developing soon by utilizing my chemistry minor).

Unfortunately the costs associated with getting myself up to Baltimore are fairly high. I'm unable to pay for lodging at any of the nearby hotels (although I am expanding my search area, I'd prefer to get something closer as it'd make travel to and from the conference much easier) and so I figured I might reach out to some fellowship members to see if perhaps I could arrange a housing swap!

If there's anyone who would be interested in this please let me know and I can provide more information. This conference could make or break my career; I'd be happy to figure out the details.

Thanks,
Henry Tregillus

Have You RSVP'd for the Interim RE Startup?

Our RE planning and visioning session is just around the corner: Saturday, March 21, 11 - 3. Make sure your voice is heard. RSVP by March 19 to Karen Scrivo at interimdre@firstunitarian.net.

What's a Startup, you ask? It's an opportunity for church members to get on the same page about our RE program (children, youth and adults). The process, led by our district executive director, Rev. David Pyle, has three parts: history, roles and responsibilities, and goals and planning. We need your input, so please plan to attend! For more information, visit the RE blog at the church website.

Book Group
Thursday, April 28
7:30 - 9:30 p.m.

The Book Group meets to discuss James Carroll's novel, Warbug in Rome. Set in Rome in the aftermath of the Allied liberation in World War II. Accourding to a National Public Radio reviewer, "Warbug's Rome is a morally fraught landscape where the forces of light and darkness battle for and within each human soul. The fate of millions hinges on the decisions made by his protagonists but, as in those other fictional settings, the enormity of the stakes overwhelms moral certainty. WE are plunged into a murky world where heroic action often backfires and conflicting moral imperatives give rise to unsavory compromises." The same reviewer faulted the book on character development, but the Book Group has found that even a flawed book can be a good read and generate a good discussion. Click here to read the review. Or here for another thoughtful review.

The Book Group meets in a home in Mt. Washington. Contact Mike Franch at books@firstunitarian.net for more information. You don't need to be a regular Book Group member to attend and participate in the lively discussions.
