    WEEK OF MARCH 16TH - 20TH

Hello everyone!

5 Things You Need to Know This Week

1. SSDI Disability Advocacy Opportunity:
On Wednesday, March 18th the San Antonio Clubhouse will be traveling to the Social Security Office to advocate for our members' needs. The group will assemble at the Clubhouse and travel together to the office. If you are interested, sign up in the Business Unit and be sure to wear your Clubhouse T-Shirt to the event.
2. We Want You! Choose your Home Base Unit Today
This month, Clubhouse members have begun to choose home base units. As we grow, selecting home base units is important in building strong and consistent unit teams. Home base units in larger Clubhouses operate much like departments in businesses. Please let any of the staff know once you have chosen your unit. Remember, you can always change your home base unit! For more information on the four units: Business, Community Connections, Culinary & Dining, and Wellness visit www.saclubhouse.org.

3. McFarland, USA: An Inspiring Clubhouse Excursion by Victoria
Perseverance is the first word that popped into my mind while watching the movie McFarland, USA. If you are feeling down and wanting to give up, I suggest watching this movie. It shows that if you persist even amidst difficulties that you will get to the outcome you want eventually. It may take time and there may be a lot of problems, but you will get there. This movie is not just a story made up, but based on a real life situation.

A group of members at SA Clubhouse had the chance to experience this thanks not only to the Clubhouse but through a program called Eva’s Heroes. I am glad to have watched McFarland, USA because it redefines perseverance in a way I can understand and many others can understand as well.

4. Dennis's Double Play
There's a whole lotta shaking going on in the NFL. Players are moving teams and Dennis has all the details in a new weekly article called "Dennis's Double Play."

5. Trader's Village: A Trip to the Market
During our meeting for social events, several people suggested that we visit Trader's Village Market. In order to better accommodate our members, this Saturday, March 21st, we will be taking a trip to Trader's Village to shop. If you are interested, sign up in the Business Unit and submit your $3.00 deposit.

Notes from the House Meeting

Topic 1: Let’s talk about the employment dinner meal pricing- Clubhouse community pays $1.50 and guests pay $5.00? It is a delicious meal with a yummy dessert.

Clubhouse standard 16: "...Members are not paid for any Clubhouse work, nor are there any artificial reward systems." The group discussed charging all people for Employment Dinners and not offering it free to members who are employed. Offering a free meal to members who are employed is an artificial reward. The group decided to require all members and staff to pay $1.50 and require guests to pay $5.00.

Topic 2: Announce invitation to write and have published a personal memoir.

A Clubhouse member in Cleveland, OH, has a publishing company. She received a $3,000 grant to publish memoirs on Clubhouse members from any Clubhouse. The memoirs are an effort to dispel the stigma associated with mental illness by allowing people to tell their personal story. Members will not be paid for writing their stories, but can sell the competed book for a profit of $5.00. If you are interested, contact the Business Unit. Stories can be written or dictated.
