Call for Spring Photos, and Conserving Water

Spring is sprung. Credit: Karol M

Welcome to Issue 3, Vol. 3, of the IJC Newsletter.

Spring officially starts on Friday, March 20, and the signs are everywhere, from melting ice to the return of birds, and budding plants and trees. We were just about to update our Facebook page with a new spring photo when we decided to ask for submissions.

Send your photos showing "signs of spring" to SendPhotosIJC@gmail.com. We'll use them, with credit of course, on our Facebook page, other social media accounts, and (depending on the response) a blog post showing what spring 2015 looks like across the Canada-U.S. transboundary region. The deadline to submit is April 20. Photos that are horizontal and high-resolution (1600 pixels wide) work best. Thanks!

World Water Day 2015 Focuses on Sustainable Development

The IJC will observe World Water Day, March 22, with an informational display at the University of Waterloo’s Water Institute in Ontario. This full-day event is expected to bring together researchers, educators, students and stakeholders involved in water issues in and around Ontario, and also celebrate our freshwater resources.

Lake Erie, Saginaw Bay to See Significant Conservation Projects

A new Regional Conservation Partnership Program authorized in the 2014 U.S. Farm Bill directs $370 million to states and critical conservation areas, including the Great Lakes region. The areas represent an opportunity for many stakeholders to come together at a regional level to address common natural resource goals while maintaining or improving agricultural productivity.
